Not a drop here! But it's supposed to rain every day since last Monday, and we got about a dozen sprinkles. Also supposed to rain the next 4 days. We need it now.

Maine got thunder showers twice last week. The ground is still soft, perfect for weeding. I am planting lilies. Next week, I will start planting turnips and snow peas. I finally have a little strip of space in the garden nearest the kitchen. It had been over grown with spiderwort. I want kale, beets, turnip greens and things I can pick in the winter without having to wade through snow and ice. Then I had better get to the passive solar collectors. Winter hits before one knows it and the winterization isn't done. I just don't think about it all summer.

I definitely want to see a picture of that outfit on a horse!

Late to the party, having trouble clearing my mind of that tutu image ...must go plant something.

The garden near the front of the house, borders a porch in an ell that gets hit by direct south sun. On a sunny 6 degree day, it is above 50 and if no wind, even into the low 70's. Snow and ice melt quickly. The back yard is shaded by the north east side of the house so it is a frozen tundra.

Up early this morning to plant the Schreiner's irises that arrived via UPS late yesterday afternoon. Still cool - but will be hot later.
They are mostly blues - Astro Blue, Abiqua Falls, Agua Fresca, Bedford Lilac - and all benefitted from an overnight in a pail of water. They've gone in
next to the Sea Powers and Merchant Marine.
Watching for Stout order and Breezeway. Hubs dug me a new bed yesterday!

California's in a drought - a serious drought. We're taking short showers and installing emitters that only go on the desired plants. So glad that once established, irises are drought-tolerant. Son, who lives in L..A. is very concerned, particularly when a 90 yr. old water main near USC broke and 20 million gallons of water were lost. Bad timing.

That story actually hurt when I heard it yesterday. Such a precious resource even shorter now.

Breezeway order arrived today. VERY pleased. Their prices are lower than most, and I didn't know what to expect. Rhizomes are
big, root systems were very full,, shipping was low cost and well-packed, and I got a nice bonus in Good Life. On my A list.

Yep, Breezeway is getting high fives all around.

Breezeway sounds like a winner. (Next year I will look - next year, next year...ok I am telling myself not all of you!).

My Rainbow order arrived today. Mixed bag. Most rhizomes very nice. They had to sub one of the ones for my friend's (and second mother) garden so I am a bit short on the yellow end of the yellow and purple theme, but the sub was Cinnamon Flash which I kept thinking of buying so not all bad!!!! And I am happy to have Goldkist finally, and Ozone Alert.

OOOOh, Goldkist! That is one on my gonna-get list.

Leslie -- I have an awful lot of Picasso Moon -- which is a gorgeous gold shade of yellow. Would this work in your friend's yellow and purple garden?

Mary Ann - I have some P. Moon that you generously sent earlier. Assuming they are still alive and well in their pots at her house, I should be set with Moon. I will know after I get there this afternoon to do some planting. Thanks much for offering more!
