Hi folks.

I am in Virginia, probably 7a but maybe 7b. I am looking to acquire and try to grow outside some white ginger lily, I believe the one I want is Tai Monarch. I've read at least one comment elsewhere that a fellow overwintered it somewhere in NY -- that heavy mulch protecting the rhizomes is a key.

I know it can flourish in coastal North Carolina because I worked with it there -- and anyway I am prepared to risk it because I love the plant so. Not set up to do much inside at this point.

If any of you know where I might get a rhizome or two of Tai Monarch I'd sure appreciate the heads up. I looked online and thought I'd found a source in NC but then their website failed to yield anything.

Clues? Directions? Hand-holding? Green Grin!

And, thanks in advance.

Kyla, it's surely a bit late in the season to be thinking of starting a ginger where you are. No way you'll get any flowers before the first cold nights put an end to things. All of mine are 5ft. tall and blooming right now. I would think in springtime - late March for me - some of us would have divisions for you if you'd like to pay postage.

But I found H.coronarium and also H. Tai Savannah at Plant Delights nursery in NC. They're both very similar to Tai Monarch I think. You should also take a look at the other gingers on their page, they will knock your socks off.

Ah, a reality check. I'm sure you're right. Sad

Plant Delights was the place I looked, expecting to find the Tai Monarch there, and you're so right about that also, they have gorgeous stuff.

I guess I'll table this til spring, then.
