Ooh, pretty. Is that ageratum? (not sure how to spell it...)

New blooms this time of year are another sign of a successful garden IMO. Here it's all looking like it's on its last legs and ready for quittin' time.

:D

yes, wild ageratum or Conoclinium coelestinum. I just got it this year. Supposed to be a great pollinator plant. We'll find out.

I thought your garden looked pretty nice and bloomful, Kyla! Thumbs up

Thank you, some of that is my meager skillz as a picture taker. A few spots look sweet, but a lot of it looks like the work in progress that it is.

Ageratum grows wild in coastal NC, or self-sows wildly is perhaps more accurate. I can't recall but it's probably a very attractive plant for the pollinators.

So, I took a few pictures this morning early, trying to get my camera mojo workin'.

Here is something from my little groundcover experiment patch, called Creeping Lobelia (Lobelia chinensis)

And I keep trying to get the right color on the Brachyscombe but it's hard to capture!

I'm going to have to keep trying with the Painted Fern, too. (Athyrium niponicum 'Pictum')

Something else from my groundcover patch, Veronica liwanensis, will be prettier next spring when it flowers.

well, sounds to me like you are being overly-modest about both your garden and your picture taking skills. Smiling

I've been told it self-sows well here, too. I figure it will be prettier than the self-sowing weeds that are currently overtaking my lawn-turned-meadow. ;-) Also, it is a Monarch Way Station plant, so definitely a good source of nectar! Smiling

Very pretty! I really like 'Pictum'. I know what you mean about trying to capture the color on Brachyscome. Is that Blue Zephyr?

Alrighty then. I may not have variety information, but I do believe I got the color.

Spent most of today indoors trying to catch up on chores. Have also been having fun making photo contributions to ATP's database, and building my 'plant list'. I'm hoping to keep better track of when things bloom in my yard. I have been keeping an excel file all along of my plants, but I like the 'events' feature on the ATP plant list (when something bloomed, when I transplanted it, when I purchased or sowed it), plus there are photos next to each plant's name -- anyway, nice supplement to my own record keeping.

Ha, chores! HA! I say. Green Grin!

I made a list of things I want to get done, and then spent the day doing all the things not on the list so I can get to the list. Whistling

I also posted a couple of my troublesome gardening questions here and there, and got some good information.

And I moved that sprinkler around some.

As for the keeping track thing? Well, I admire and respect those who can do that. Hat's off to ya. Whenever I try anything like that, I end up in a tangle and have to give it up. Sticking tongue out

LOL Kyla--seems like my to-do lists end up like that sometimes, too! Smiling But it sounds very productive. So what kinds of interesting things did you learn?

Yeah, I know most people aren't into the database/recordkeeping thing--just one of my uber-nerdy quirks. Hilarious!

A gardening buddy of mine called to say she has tiny Monarch caterpillars (and eggs) that she's going to need help fostering, so it looks like I'll have at least a couple to raise! Hurray!

l learned that the reason a few plants have mysteriously died is not because one of the cats peed there. That's a relief really, but also, I still have no clue why this is happening. Weird!

And I learned my rose transplanting project will probably work fine maybe. LOL!

That is good to know about the cat pee--I have those ferals who hang out in my yard. Any idea what might have happened to the plants? Did they just sort of shrivel up?

I have some Vincas whose foliage is turning sort of a lime green instead of the deep green it is usually. I've been wondering whether it is a virus or a micronutrient deficiency of some kind. Sad

well, that is a crispy looking plant. Glare I would second digging it up and seeing what's going on underneath. Sometimes one can get a nematode or something else and the other not, or one can have something under the soil disturbing its existence, and the other not.

I had a spot in one of my beds where everything seemed to die. Then this summer while digging in there I noticed some green plastic several inches down. Turns out the previous owner some time ago had put green plastic garbage bags down along the side of that bed (I assume to stop the weeds from under the porch from encroaching on the garden bed). It was effective at stopping the weeds, but until I found it and ripped it out, nothing would grow in that spot! Not that that's what's causing your phlox to wither! Big Grin

Yipes! Well, glad you found it. Whenever I see someone has put plastic weed barrier down I'll take it right out.

Yes, it sounds like I should dig down and see what I can discover under that phlox. Too sad; they were so gorgeous when I brought them home.
