Mornin', weather fans. Here it's sunny and forecast to get up to a steamy 74 degrees F. I intend to plant the allium and daffs from Catmint. I think the allium will look good in front of that rose I moved (which, by the way, is going great guns, throwing leaves out all over its happy self). I am not yet sure where the daffs will go but it helps that their time will come when other things are low to the ground, as it were.

We're going to be in the mid 60's today with lots of sunshine. I'm still trying to collect seeds but they are slow to mature and dry out while still on the plants. I plan to stay out all day and make a small dent in what needs attention out there.

You lucky ducks! I'm work-bound again today, plus my daughter's birthday party begins tomorrow at 5 and runs through Saturday afternoon, then a volleyball tournament. So--busy busy.

Totally rainy on and off today. But I still managed to get my garlic in the ground, replant some trees that I got from Arbor day and work on a trellis I am building

Figured I better come in from my shed for a bit and spend some time with my wife (before going back out after dinner). Even a rainy day can be a productive day.

What trees did you get for Arbor Day, Glenn?

I got a crape myrtle last year which is doing great. This year I got a Magnolia Jane but unfortunately it didn't make it. Glare

Glad you mentioned that! I just moved the 2 crape myrtles I got to their permanent homes. I hope they do great. Did you do any soil amendments when you planted?

They also sent me 2 white dogwoods and 2 sargent crabapple that I have to figure out what to do with...

hi, Glenn. I had my crape myrtle in a 16" pot for a year! It was so tiny. But it leafed out nicely the first year and grew quite a bit. This past spring I put it in the ground surrounded by some protective wire. No soil amendments, just right into the ground. It has grown a lot but didn't flower this year. Maybe next! How old are yours?

White dogwoods and crabapples sound really nice!

I have to admit I am very weary of crepemyrtles. Here and points south, there seems to be one every time you turn around, or many. Street trees, median strip landscaping, everyone's yards, pink pink pink pink Sticking tongue out

after a while, it gets real old. Especially the way they're pruned. I will say for them that as they age the limbs and bark are quite lovely; they acquire a polished look and can take on some graceful and beautiful shapes -- as long as they're not crape murdered.

Up your way, though, maybe they're not so prevalent. lant. whatever. Green Grin!

Crabapples are pretty trees! and dogwoods also, of course.

Are crepemyrtles much happiness for butterflies or pollinators? Seems to me I've not seen them get much attention that way....

There are a ton of them here too Kyla. I like them because they are a tree that flowers in late summer in several different colors. You're right though-- nonnative that doesn't do much for the local ecology. Just pretty. But I've always had trouble turning down the minimally priced Arbor day trees.

Mine arrived early spring of this year. I had them temporarily in some loose dirt by my mulch pit till I was ready to move them. I was surprised how deep the roots were when I dug them up. I put them in the ground straight up as well. They seemed to do just fine where I had them waiting.

I'm hoping mine will flower next season! I still don't know if it's a pink one or a red one!
