@Sallyg, if you come and get them, I have 12 Sastwiss Chard plants (rainbow). LMK.

Ate my first tomato today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sun Gold. I love heirlooms too. Cherokee orange preferred to purple. Growing all cherries this year and one Kelloggs Breakfast which came highly
recommended, One of the farmers at market grows 80 or so varieties so I am spoiled.

@MariposaMaid, maybe.. Saturday or Sunday morning or evening? what times are good? Sure you won't use them? I will reimburse. Do I owe you anything? I have clumps of Stella D'Oro I was supposed to get to you last year... if I can still find the labels.
Plant it and they will come.

I ended up ordering chard seed, then this heat wave hit. It seems fruitless to try and start it now.
Watermelons are taking off now, bet they love the heat. Early GIrls are getting some yellow bottom leaves, RUH ROH! the others are OK. Honestly, with four of each, I don't think I'll be too sad if early girls poop out early.
Plant it and they will come.

For me Early Girl is not particularly early but it does keep on producing and doesn't never peter out like some of the truly early ones do.

I grew a Sungold myself from seed and planted it back where I used to have the garden, getting shady. That stinker has grown but a fraction of the ones in the new sunnier garden, surprised me how different.
Plant it and they will come.

My tomato plants are doing great. There are some very small tomatoes on a couple of them. Will have to wait for weeks for them to ripe Drooling . The heat is killing a lot of flowers on ornamental plants, but probably will make tomatoes happy.

The basils this year are the worst I have ever seen. They first didn't grow during the wet and cold weeks, and got black spots on the leaves. Now they are full of holes. Do bugs eat basil leaves? Anything I can do to stop that? Grumbling

I bought a pot with a couple dozen basil seedlings. I split them and planted some of my beautiful basil seedlings, and they immediately got holes. I put some slug bait there, but I don't know for sure it was slugs. The ones I held back, I think I will pot and try to keep them away from whatever it was.
Cilantro has bolted already, cripes.
Plant it and they will come.

Thanks, Sally. I will see if I can use some Sluggo around it. Or I can just move the pot to the middle of patio, hoping slugs won't hike that far on a dry surface. Sticking tongue out

Edit to add: I tried cilantro once without success. Guess weather in our area doesn't stay cool long enough.

Or the Basil might have a fungus. In that case there is nothing one can do.

I Have some tiny tomatoes set here on my Golden Rave plants.

Prepped another 20% of the veggie garden. I'll plant tomorrow The only thing I have is PT, you can go there a little dirty and get away with it. I hope. My appointment isn't ill 1130 pm. So I may get 2-3 hours in the garden.
I spent a lot of the weekend working on Holly's (our) stuff. It will only take a bit more on the backyard, After that a little attention to the beds then veggies away.
I still have herbs sitting in the driveway to go in the tumble pots outside the door, so you know how far ahead I can project.
Promise I'll get everything planted this year Crossing Fingers! Hilarious!
I do have (4) all the ponds to get going. Maybe tomorrow.

@sallyg, my basil is also improving, probably because now it is growing faster than what bugs can eat.

I have a question about tomatoes though, given that my tomato growing experience is limited to one tomato plant last year nodding . The tomato plants are growing like crazy now. All the leaves are green, no signs of bugs or diseases. The tomatoes are all hidden in the lush leaves. Do they need direct sun on them to ripe? Do I need to remove a few leaves so that the tomatoes can "see" the sun? nodding Sorry. This must have been one of the most outlandish questions ever asked on this board. Sticking tongue out

Hey not to worry about asking questions. That is how we learn.

No do not remove the foliage. The tomatoes will get ripe when it is the proper time for them to do so.

Life is "mind over matter". If I d
I bought a multi-pack ofSnap Beans (Heirloom Blue Lake--Bush).. at HD yesterday. All for $4.78. The pack had 6 sections, each holding about4-6 strong, tall bean plants--at least 10" tall.
Since I lost 2 of the Tomatoes I planted--I used the space to plant the beans.
I also had a BIG, empty pot full of soil. Don't remember what I had planted there last summer.
It has just been sitting there--by my shed. SO-I planted the remaining clump of beans in this pot. No dirext sun on any of these. Just some filtered AM sun.
IF they all make it--I am going to be loaded with Snap Beans....I'll just eat the peas as they come ripe... LOVE peas in pods!

The rain deluge is over. It was so much--it could have filled 5 rain barrels.
My lawn is so dry--it absorbed just about all the water in no time flat.
My huge, old maple trees thank the rain gods for this. SLURP!!!!

yes! tHREE CLUMPS OF MY SUGAR SNAP PEAS ALSO CAME UP! Waiting patiently!
It will be a while till I can grab a few and eat them all fresh. YUMMM....
A andwich-sized plastic baggie full of Snap peas costs about $2. 50 at Richardsons. Angry

It is thundering again and the sky is all gray. More rain! You are welcome--Mr. Maple Tree...!,,,

Mailman just stopped by. Gonna run out to grab whatever is for me,,,G.

My sister has a community garden vegetable plot at the rec center in Leesburg. It is a pretty cool concept. She is out of town this week, so she asked me to water it while she is gone. The last time she was out of town and asked me, it rained every single day LOL. I didn't realize what a chore it would be to deal with the heavy hoses. Her plot is about as far away from the hose pump as possible, so I think I was unwinding, pulling, and then rewinding 200+ feet of heavy hose. It took longer to do that than it did to water. I have gotten so used to the ease of my light weight hoses that SSG recommended. They were pricey, but oh so worth it. I'm going to tell my sister that she should ask the rec center to invest in them, it would make it so much easier for everyone. The hoses they had were old too and had several pinpoint leaks along their length. I've been getting soaked Sticking tongue out

I hope veggie picking season will soon be upon us. I picked my first crop of sugar snap peas the other day and today I am watching some green tomatoes that are set and growing. Any some of my pepper plants have really tiny peppers starting. Oh and the bush beans have flowers.
