today there are 6 baby tomatillos. I only need 3. Hope they grow fast like tomato seedlings. It's annoying when you have these babies, and then you shop and find starters that are so much bigger.
Plant it and they will come.

I would be happy to just grow some pickling cukes, some (maybe) bush beans--
and--am craving to grow sugar snap peas. Maybe??? one slicing tomato. and one Cherry one for snacking.
I only have the one small bed by the shed to plant anything in--unless I go to a
potted veggiee growing method. HMMM...I remember I once told coleup--
"movable landscapes"... Judy liked that moniker....

I have been under the weather for over a week--all that dry coughing/ mucous stuff. So nothing much has gotten done. I called out 2 days in a row...
Shame to see all this gorgeous weather go to waste. I have yet to put a shovel in the soil!
Hanging in! Gita

Bush beans are really easy and there must be someplace you can squeeze in just a few tomato plants.

As to peas those should have been planted already.

Hoping you are feeling better soon, Gita!!

My dad's plan was to have peas planted by St. Patrick's day. He lived north of me closer to NYC.

Yep! I agree Peas and onions by St. Patty's Day, Green Grin! but I never seem to make it in time for the onion snow. 2-3 weeks late and I still get enough before it gets too hot. I also like my potatoes in by Good Friday, which I just might make it this year. Sweet potatoes don't get planted till about a month later, after last frost date. Smiling

Well, slightly late for zone 7 but if you could plant immediately it might be okay. The thing with peas is they hate hot weather and thrive in cooler weather so the trick is too get them growing and producing before the warmth hits. Hot weather and they die!!

However since you like peas I would say nothing tastes as great as sweet wonderful fresh picked peas. Yumm!!

Some years my peas go in mid March but other years there is snow on the ground and can't work the ground. So it depends. So early window mid March and very late to plant mid April. Have to get them in somewhere in that time frame.

Right now some of my peas are sprouting. March was winter here so they only got planted near April. Actually on March 30th.

Rita, we are zone 6, not quite sure where the line is for A&B. Since we are in the hills I'd say the cooler of the 2. Our forsythia still has blooms and the leaves are just emerging. Asian pears opened last week and apples are about on time with Easter as the target. I've seen potatoes planted on Good Friday catch a frost, but only enough that they all looked like they'd been pinched, tremendous top growth and a BIG harvest.

Forsythia in the front yard here and around town is currently blooming. The Asian pears are just opening. Flowering cherry tress are blooming around town.

Crocus have finished but daffs are going strong. Early tulip types have just started blooming.

Things look pretty and I just love spring.

But the only things can be out in the veggie garden now are the cold hardy cabbage family things and lettuce type greens, onions and of course peas.

I am taking my home grown tomato seedlings outside for the day each day to harden them off to get ready for planting.
