Keith, that's really cool!

I dug up a few pretty big ones of these (about 3-5 ft. tall) from my Aunt's yard & put them in my yard in OH, back in 1998. They were really cool, blooming white flowers with a red center, and would usually start doing it within a day or 2 of July 4th. I never trimmed them, one got pretty tall.

These pics are about a year after I put them in.

(All of the pots are off of the ground because I had tons of rabbits there, who would eat anything in a pot.)

That's a 6-ft. fence.

Does H. syriacus always have a leaf of this shape?

My grandfather had really old Rose of Sharon he never trimmed, they got to at least 25 feet tall it was amazing with all those blooms. Yes, that is the typical leaf style.

I have also seen one taller than a 2-story house but nobody ever believes me when I tell them. It was the same one, with the white flowers with red center. Never occurred to me to take a pic, I thought it was pretty common, not the only ROS tree that size that I'd seen.

Typical leaf, but can there be H. syriacus with a diff leaf, w/o lobes & scalloped edges, or would that have to be a diff species?

I trim early spring right as I see leaf buds forming but not open.

Here's photos of my Rose Of Sharon garden (with a hibiscus too). Still waiting for some flowers to open. My variegated seedling is now a young adult, hope she blooms soon!

A ROS seedling that came up!
I thought it came from Blue Satin, but I think it's seed sterile. Is that true?

Other blues are sterile but not this. It's possible to get blue offspring but usually it's your color, still pretty.

I have one given me at a plant swap years ago, no idea what kind. I'm going to try to root a cutting for my friend who keeps asking me about that ROS of mine! They are easily rooted, right?

I have a ROS that was here when we moved in. It was a monster that due to shade had grown sideways and took over a part of yard. It survived hard pruning and now has lovely shape and two different color blooms, some are pink and others blue. Puts out a lot of suckers, some I dig out and pot to give away.

Tiffany I believe you because mine were taller than my two story house. Hilarious!

Here is a pic and you can see it is taller than my house.
