And we saw a male & a female ruby throat *at the same time* on one of our feeders today. Haven't seen a male here in ages. Makes me wonder if it's a migrant. SHE wasn't chasing him off which is highly unusual as our hummies fight constantly & you only ever see one sipping form a feeder at the time. Don't know if it was b/c it was a male or b/c he's *new* here.

So funny, with all the Flicker talk the other day guess what I saw on my walk this morning! Yup.... a Northern Flicker. Been hearing on all afternoon too..
One of the hummers heresies a female not sure about the other one.

I know they usually do Cat. We had a male here early in the season, but haven't seen a male for the whole summer. The one early in the season had no easy time of it as there were many fights & that's why it was so weird to see both a male & female feeding together today.

I'm impressed how clean your hummie feeders are Claudia. Nice photos.

...I just clean them every week. These Hummzinger feeders are very easy. I have had these for several years now. They are the only feeders I will use. They are raccoon proof! Every other type of feeder I had the raccoons would tear them up or empty all the sugar water out of them nightly.

Nice jmorth!! When we first moved out here we used to see large flocks of geese migrating. Now we will see one or two here and there. I know we have a problem with them down by the lake with trying to keep the beach clean. Not sure if or where they go during the winter.

I can't find fault with it Lin. I love those little green herons; just want to pick them up & hug them.

I have a similar heron here on the mudflats. Sometimes they are lumped with your species.
Today, I heard my first returning cuckoo of the season. A male Australian Koel calling in the distance. This is what he looked like last summer. Large, black and fiery eyed.
