We had plenty of 100 degree weather in 2013. That was enough for me!

Well, it's only 43 degrees here, and I got sick of being cold, so I started a small fire in the wood stove to take the chill off. All this talk about 100 degree weather didn't help much. Hilarious! It's drizzlling out and I have to go out in it in a few minutes to feed horses, so I want to start out warm anyway! When I'm finished, I want to come into a warm house at least.

I'll take 43 degrees over 90 degrees any day of the week. You can't take off enough clothes to cool off in that temp. Must be my Celtic blood. I think the hottest day this summer was 87.

Ok.. I just laughed coffee up my nose at the thought of Tom Barbecuing in his pink tutu. I imagine there would be pink tights too.

I think now that the ice bucket challenge has become old news, we should start the tutu challenge. Guys? Who's up for it?? Rolling on the floor laughing

It never got out of the 40's today, I think 44 was the high on my thermometer. Now it's down to 40 and drizzling! I think if I did have a tu tu I'd burn it! I'm tired of cold and wet. I snuck out between showers and took some pictures of my new beds, and the weeds are growing like mad, they love this weather. But I was able to get everything ready for the Bar BQ tomorrow at least. Now I hope the sun shines tomorrow a bit.

I hope so too, Tom. And the tights are very warm under long trousers and no one will know they are pink.

Been a while since I read this thread. I remember it was one of the first ones in the Irises Forum I ever read, long before I stopped being a lurker and 'came out' of the iris closet. It is still funny! Hilarious!

This was one of the posts which convinced me that I had come to the right place:

grannysgarden said:Tom, my totals have gone in the opposite direction sometimes due to tornadoes moving me and crown fires destroying barns and more moving about. I have always had irises, bought a few, shared a few, begged a few, but in the seventies I found a lady in south AR that grew irises and sold named varieties to support her habit. I took my, then two, children and we went to select a few..... we had room for a dozen. We bought some of each sixty-seven varieties. I was over the moon. Needless to say that was the tornado house and I relocated and brought some irises, both children, with me. The irises dwindled, the children grew. I recouped and re-grew, had more children, made new gardens then another relocation due to fire. the irises dwindled, the children grew. Brought a few iris, all children, and relocated. (Dam, I sound like a gypsy writing this) Anyway, long story short, too late, I am here with some weary irises, children off to seek their fortune, and one pug dog. About ten years ago I was given a dwarf iris and a new love affair began..... in earnest! Now I have a lot of dwarfs, still have my battle weary TB's, and I feel like it is time once and for all to satiate this yearning for irises. Finally let the world know what a nut I am. Come out of the iris closet and shout to the world "Bring me your rhizomes!!!".

I probably should not post until the moon goes down and I have a bit of sanity showing. LOL

Thank You! Bonnie!! Lovey dubby

"Bring me your rhizomes!" Indeed! Hilarious!

Yes, you came to the right place Lilli. Hurray! Hurray!

We refer to ourselves at iris nuts but there is so much more to our love of the iris plant. When I was a little girl we moved from a tree lined city neighborhood to a the farm. I remember helping my mother unpack boxes and boxes. On opening one box I found ... ~~CHICKENS, PROVERBS AND RHIZOMES~~. There in the box were mother's clean little dish towels with crocheted cotton lace on each end and chickens embroidered on them. They each had an adage such as 'waste not, want not' or 'Do unto others....' and each was loosely rolled up to make a little package of sorts. I picked one up and gently unfolded it and there in the center was the cleanest rhizome you ever saw. I refolded it knowing that this was something precious to my mother. As she explained a little later the rhizomes were packed in the dish towels according to color... the yellow iris with the little yellow chicks, the purple iris with the chickens among violets, etc. And each one came with a story. A bright colored one from her aunt when she was a new bride and the depression had left everyone feeling hopeless. A sweet pink she and her first two little girls planted and watched over. A tall orange one from a neighbor whos health was failing and that gave it to her for weeding her garden. It was probably the only thing the old lady had to give. My mother cherished it. She told me that no matter where they bloomed each one was a piece of family, friend and home.

Irises are like a thread running through my life from childhood connecting all the parts together. I love sharing irises. I love thinking that someday I will bring a smile and memory when a shared iris blooms. I love irises.... confessions of a true iris nut.

Yes, you came to the right place, Lilli..... and I am so glad you did. Smiling
