Just got my irises in the mail from the Texas Sale! All Smiles and Soft Side. Soft Side is a nice double rhizome, and All Smiles is a tripple! Smiling I'm giving them a nice soak, and then I'll get them in the ground ASAP, as time's passing quickly and winter is right on our heels. Thanks to Judy over on Cubits who facilitated their arrival for me and Debra who helped make the connection. Hurray! (This is where you imagine a happy dancing idiot) Rolling on the floor laughing Can you tell I'm tickled pink!

That's very kind of you, Marilyn. Lately, the pottery-making has been a big distraction from iris gardening. And vice-versa!

Yup they "done good" Hilarious! Now watch, next year they will be all over the place to buy. But they are all snug in their beds already, even though I had to do a bit of a bed extention to make it happen.

Yup, and if I'm lucky I'll get to see them in bloom next year. Now I have to concentrate on cleaning up the rest of the beds. It has gotten really cold all of a sudden this afternoon. I still have wood to split, and I have a ton of tomatoes to can yet before fall. I think I might concentrate on splitting wood if it's cold tomorrow. It's alway hard work, and cold weather is a good time to do that. Besides it rained a lot here today, and it's going to be too muddy to do anything with the flowers.

Tom I bought that one this year! It's in my plant list. Got it from Breezeway - $3. Hope mine looks as beautiful as yours!
I'm particularly taken with the "white (standards?) on top and color on the falls" look. So stunning.
I seem to recall that that combo is called an Amoena - must look it up - "a little knowledge is
a dangerous thing"! or so I'm told!

Wow Tom.. Rain and cold... Two things I would have embraced today.. Too hot, too dry, and I'm getting tired of dragging a hose around.

Oh, so am I!!! I stayed up to see if something would fall from the sky as predicted and so far nothing. Radar shows the rain breaking up and weakening in the western part of the state..... big gaps in the front.... I will be out with the hose first thing tomorrow.

I am sorry Rob. My heat should break this week after this no rain front comes through. we should be in the 80's for a few days before going back up to the 90's.... or so the weather guessers say.

Well, it has quit raining and now it's 47 degrees here today, and very windy. I put on a sweat shirt today to keep warm. Ugh. Maybe the solar storm will churn up the air masses enough to change some of these wierd weather patterns into something different. Of course it may be different in a bad way too! I have a Bar B Q planned for this Saturday, so I hope it's not cold. Gunna make a mess of ribs. I hope the sun comes out and dries up things a bit, I have a bunch of iris to dig and get shipped, beans and tomatoes to pick. Nothing worse then digging iris in the mud, although the dirt washes off of them faster when it's wet.

I hear distant thunder. promising...... one weather guesser on the local station said it would have to rain for a bit before it reached the ground.... called it 'verga'??? I am looking for iris to come in the mail. I had quite a few small trades, and iris for postage this year, and it spoiled me to looking forward to an iris arriving almost every week. Now I have two sources that I am looking forward to getting irises from. Yippee!

The radar shows a quite a bit of precip in your area, so some of it should be getting to the ground. It's a pretty large system.
