I have had as many as 23 buds on Earl of Essex.....one stalk of Earl of Essex ! They were so tightly stacked on the stalk, they couldn't open properly. As MaryAnn said, the spring bloom is always OK, but fall stalks can be crowded with buds, are often 'twisted', or "goose-necked", and often , lay right on the ground (possibly because of the weight of the buds ?!?). Distorted blossoms, twisted stalks, and un reliability of bloom aside....I do love them re bloomers !!
