It was horrid here this morning, Thumbs down we got a few inches more snow overnight and the wind was blowing it around and it was only 8f degrees, then it went down another degree so cold, cold, cold, still only 8fdegrees even with the sun shining and less wind. I went out to feed the birds and boy did my fingers every get cold quickly, I think I need battery mitts. nodding

My hands got cold this morning as well Margaret when I was watering on the north side of the house and it was 34 . You probably consider that a heat wave... Hilarious!

I have wondered how well the battery socks & mitts/gloves work. I guess Natalie answered the question. My toes & hands get so cold so fast & once they get cold they will not warm up. Might have to look into those things.

Debra, you all ready for New Years! Thumbs up

Ann, as soon as I get in the house I put my hands in very warm water for a few minutes, works great! I guess you could do the same with your feet. nodding

Yes, I have discovered the warm water trick but that doesn't help you if you're out somewhere away from home for hours. I do the warm (warm? Hilarious! HOT water) trick all the time at home.

I'm a big fan of those disposable hand and toe warmers. I have gloves that have a mitten cover that goes over my fingertips, so I stick one in the cover, and one on the toes of my socks. Keeps them toasty warm outside in the winter.

It is 9 degrees here, with a wind chill of -1. Glare The roads are nice and dry, so we'll probably run to the city today to go grocery shopping, since more bad weather is on the way. Guess I better go find my hand and toe warmers. Hilarious!

Menards had the heated gloves on sale a couple weeks ago for $20. I bought two. Planning on using it when I go out to move snow if and when it gets here. Rolling on the floor laughing We are having two of our coldest days this season today and tomorrow 20°f with wind chill in the single digits. So far no significant snow around here. Small chance of a couple inches later this week.

Debra, town, where the vet is, is in the opposite direction of the city, and it is supposed to be dry tomorrow too. Otherwise, we'd see if we could get the shot today. Thumbs up

Mike, if you ever get around to trying those gloves, let us know how they work. I miss Menards!

Nowadays everything is the Super Stores. Like K Mart and Wal Mart. When I grew up we still had Woolworths and McClellans. Those were great but of course couldn't outlast the Walmarts after those showed up. I still have dishes my mother bought in McClellans and we used to get sheets and towels and glassware there too. Among lots of other things.

They used to have those 5&10 cent stores. Even long after things were not a nickel or a dime. I sort of thought of the stores as a catch all. They sold so many things.

As a kid and young woman I bought many clothes in Woolworths. Lots of other stuff too. Those stores were in town. The Walmart here is far away so I mainly just don't go there.

It is 71 here and sunny with a good breeze. I was out planting stock, violas, and pansies. Big Grin Rain and icy cold weather supposed to hit New Years Eve, however. The new flowers will enjoy the rain.

Linda, they sound lovely, but I imagine they won't enjoy the icy cold. Sad

Margaret, violas and pansies flourish all winter down here then die out when it starts getting warm. They probably work the same way for Linda.

Our geraniums are blooming like fools and that lasts until the rains that come in the spring. One of my hibiscus prefers the fall/winter too. Crazy stuff when you live in the warm climates!

Arlene, I know pansies are pretty hardy, they do great here and will bloom from June until hard frost in the fall.

I posted this photo on "The Circle of Life" thread, photo was taken 13/12/14 and the pansy was still green and you can see buds. Blinking

Plants should be OK, Margaret. The clouds are coming in now and wind on and off. Possible snow flurries in the foothills of Tucson tonight after a high of 72 yesterday ! Blinking
