Amazing Blossom Peacock! One month after planted in pot, it makes eight new growths (leaves).

That Blossom Peacock looks great. The one "leaf" in the front looks like it could be a scape.

I checked and it's mostly not, but still happy with its vigorous growing show. Other two look like still in sleep except noticeably changing bulb colors.

Hi, So far among the three A's I grow, only will the Celebration go blooming this time (probably in early summer). Since they all bloomed past season in winter or early spring, I have no idea how I should care/tend this one going bloom in summer? I have placed the Cele and the Blossom Peacock right inside of a window facing west. Now they begin to be exposed to strong direct sunlight late afternoon (3.5 ~ 4 hours, longer exposure comes along the hot summer later) and I started watering them every 3 or 4 days. I wonder should I move them, especially the Cele to a place with no direct sunlight BEFORE or AFTER the buds start to pop? Thanks and appreciate advice/help.

Its fine where it is now. Rotate the pot so the scape doesn't lean towards the window.

Thanks, Barbara. It does become harder and harder to keep the scape up straight...

This Celebration skape only has two buds on it this warm season. The bloom has been in rapid pace... Is it time to move to a dimer place?

I think you are asking if the bloom time will be extended by moving the plant out of the window. I'm not really sure if there is a significant difference in actual days. Maybe someone else has had experience with this.

Thanks, Barbara. Actually I haven't thought about extending bloom time... just wondering if such exposure to strong direct sunlight under high heat for long period of time will affect A's normal and healthy growth? This is just the early summer... should I prepare for changes in next 3, 4 months? Thanks

Yes, bloom time is extended if the plant is moved out of direct sunlight when blooming. But when it is not blooming, it likes the sun and warm temps. As for very strong sunlight and extreme temps, I would watch is carefully, and make sure it is well watered - but not waterlogged. Keep an eye on it and watch for the laves drying out and turning brown on the ends. If that happens, move it to a different location. If the leaves stay green and leathery, then the plant is happy where it is - hope this helps a bit! Big Grin

Thanks, cwhitt. I'll keep an eye on the coming hot summer weather. Meanwhile may consider cutting bloom skape for bottling...

fiat -- here is something I recently learned - the bloom will actually last longer if you cut it. Also, after you cut it, turn the stem upside down and fill the hollow stem with tepid water. Put your finger over the bottom of the hollow stem, forming a plug, as you turn it back upright so the water does not run back out, and lower the stem into your vase of water. At night, you can put it in the fridge if you want, to make the bloom last even longer. nodding
