One month to go before I can start pruning. I'm itching to do it now, but I think it's best to wait until December.

My Palatine roses will be arriving this month. I'm already preparing the spots for them.

I couldn't find any roses with November in the name, so here's Thanksgiving, a 1965 Howard hybrid tea. I actually have two hybrid teas named Thanksgiving. The other is a 1962 Warriner rose.

Was actually thinking about Pumpkin Patch for November's rose.

My roses are still trying to put out growth & blooms.. but I think yesterday's extreme cold snap (first hard freeze of the season) may have finally put an end to that. Which is good.. I've got horrible black spot! Yikes! How does anyone deal with that nastiness!! I didn't spray this year.. heck, I very very very rarely spray ever! But I will say that this was a good year for no aphids.. nary an aphid to be spotted anywhere! Probably because winter wouldn't let go this spring. Don't dare to prune now, not with winter finally starting to creep in on me. But doesn't mean I can't dream of warmer days (I say this as I'm wearing a short-sleeve sweater & it's 60degs out there, but it was a bit chilly this morning at 730.. only about 30degs with another heavy frost) and oogle everyone else's blooms!

And, of course, peruse the Edmunds catalog I just got in. Still gunshy on ordering from them.. I think I'll look at @CindiKS 's order when it comes in if she's willing to share that info ..

Pumpkins are for October, Toni. Big Grin

I never spray for black spot. Even if I weren't concerned about the environment, I'd still be concerned about the effects of the spray on me and on the cats. They like to rub up against the rose bushes. You'd think the thorns would bother them, but they don't. Can you imagine all of us in hazmat suits? Rolling on the floor laughing

you think I'm going to order again?
Just because I said I wouldn't order the last 3 years, and then I did go ahead and order...maybe this is the year I really mean what I say?
Actually Rolling on the floor laughing .I am going to order. I have to. I have a credit for a rose that didn't survive.

How about a picture of Autumn Sunset for November? Today we had a wonderful sunset, and now I see a beautiful full moon. Toni, you need to hybridize a silvery gray rose and name it Autumn Moon. Strangely enough, that name is not taken!

Took a few photos with my cell phone, always surprised how these little phones take OK shots:

This bouquet has a big fat bloom of Rose (Rosa 'Heaven on Earth'), it's currently loaded with buds.

I was on the rose forum and they talking about this product called Serenade - suppose to be organic - they use it on veggies, fruits also. You can read about it here.

Snowing right now.. but it's the powder stuff which isn't good for plants. And a bit chilly out there.

Thumb of 2014-11-11/Skiekitty/4ac717

There was a few of my minis trying to put out new blooms this weekend.. I had LOTS of new growth all over the place because of the moisture we'd gotten, and then temps in the upper 60s and low 70s.. heck, a few days ago it was nearly 80 degs! And now we're struggling to get out of single digits. Typical. Supposed to go down into the negatives by Thurs morning, then back up into the 30s & 40s by the weekend. Little late for our first snow and a LOT early for this kind of cold. So glad I decided NOT to get my Palatine roses shipped in November... it would have been bad for them.

Sue, your roses are just spectacular! Love the Princess Bride meme.
I rushed around yesterday trimming off any dead canes I could find on my roses so I will know for sure next spring how much winter kill I have. It was 76 degrees out and I didn't bother to put on my gauntlets. Big Mistake! My arms are scratched and bloody and my fingers have blisters from the pruners. But...I pruned and mulched every single rose. My husband went out and bought 20 bags of compost and topsoil so I could mound up some of the newer HTs. Temps dropped 30 degrees right at 5 pm, just as forecast, brrr! We got the hoses drained and put up and secured the lawn furniture right before the winds moved in. I was so tired I could barely stay awake to watch Dancing With the Stars. Glad I did, though, because Witney came up with really brilliant choreography and Alfonso was stunning.
The winds woke us up when a 57 mph gust blew the big wooden rocking chair off the porch. It sounded like someone's roof blew off and hit our house, so noisy! I am so glad we took the time to trim all our trees last week. Any weak limbs would have torn off in that wind had we not removed them.
Palatine is shipping my roses the last week of November. I've watered and mulched the places where the roses will go so it won't be too difficult to plant. Who knows, we could be under a foot of snow that week, or back to shorts weather.

Temps went way lower than forecast! 16 this morning, then this afternoon we had quite the earthquake! Some reports say 5.3, other say 4.8. The epicenter was about 30 miles from me. The whole house shook for a good 30 seconds. My dogs were right next to me, and they went on alert a full 10 seconds before I felt anything. The strangest part was the incredible noise! It roared and grumbled almost like a tornado--the "locomotive" sound. Strange day Blinking

Cindi ....

I think whether or not you can hear an earthquake coming depends on where you live. When I lived in San Diego, I could always hear them coming, but up here, it's always a surprise.

I agree with PP. I hope you didn't have any damage from the quake.

Earthquakes do produce a very unique sound, no question about it.
I'm in full agreement with Cindi that cats and dogs can definitely sense a quake before it hits. I've witnessed my cats exhibit very odd behavior (even for cats !) just before a quake occurs...then they're MIA for a full day or longer afterward...depending on the severity of the quake.
I've lived in "earthquake central" my whole life and they STILL freak me out.

Earthquake??? Now, I did fall out of bed this morning, but I didn't think it shook the earth that badly...

lolllllll

I've never been in an earthquake. Tornado, yes. Hurricane, yes. Microburst, yes. Forest fire, yes. Earthquake? no. The basic thought of the ground beneath my feet trembling terrifies me.
