Jonna, the two little red plants are Broms of the CRYPTANTHUS sub-family. I don't recognize the two green plants. I don't even know if they are broms. Maybe in the yucca family?

The two green spotted plants are I believe some kind of Agave or Yucca.
I second Fred's identificaton of Cryptanthus - they are also called Earth Star.

Your last plant is in the Aroid family I think. Definitely not a Bromeliad.

Or could that last plant be a hosta. The way the crown just rolls the leaves reminds me of a hosta.

hmmm. shows how little I know about what is growing out there. I would like to learn though. I do belong to a succulent club here and while I miss some my spanish is improving and I'm learning a little about the plants. I now think I did get that spotted one at an early club meeting, I'll ask about it next week.

The last pic does look like a hosta, including its attractiveness to snails and slugs, but I would think it is too warm here for them. It's probably in the aroid family, I wish I could remember where I got it. I planted it and it was covered by another plant for about a year and when I moved that one, I discovered it all eaten and barely alive. It has wonderful orange-like-the-fruit stems and lime green leaves.

The little red Cryptanthus, should they be in soil rather than bark chips? Or in a tree? Thank you for identifying them.

I was able to buy this Guzmania Bromeliad early this year, and it was actively sending out pups. As the season changed from Spring to Summer, it gradually started to die off. I thought it maybe just the mother plant giving way to the pups. I was away for about 2.5 months and left it to my hubby's care, sort of, and sadly, it turned all totally brown, and dead. I brought it outdoors this time near the fountain and some shade, don't know if it will ever come back...has anyone ever grown this type of Bromeliad?

Tarev, you dodn't say where you kept your guzmania. They don't like direct sun and prefer a shady spot instead. The sun will burn them out.

During early spring they where indoors, by the west facing window, getting indirect light; then as summer came in I moved it to our north facing window, by that time the blooms have started to wilt, but the leaves were still green and okay. Too bad it did not really survive my husband's less than tender care Crying

I have placed it now outdoors near the fountain, but still in a shady spot, not really sure if it will at all come back, or maybe just charge it to experience Shrug!

These two plants caught my eye and camera this morning.
Neo. 'Walking Tall' and Neo. 'Bob and Grace' - They are all so beautiful and I can't post them all but once in a while I can't resist.

I got all these new trees to provide more shade. As with all plants, one has to experiment and many broms show evidence of too much sun. The neoregelias just don't like direct sunlight. I hope that thier pups will be more accommodating and adjust a bit but in the meantime some of these 'live oaks' should help. Here's a picture of one of them.

Anyway, as I was watering the new trees this afternoon I saw some more great plants in pure shade which I'll have to photograph tomorrow..Some are almost jet black. The more shade, the better they look. Where direct sunlight gets through, some of the leaves show little burns. Fussy buggers.

I have had problems also with burns on my leaves but they should acclimate and be just fine. Especially with the new shade!!!

I got a new bromeliad yesterday, I've no idea what it is. It's beautiful, the seller said that it needed very little light and to only put water in the top every couple of weeks. He said I could take it out of the soil and put it on a branch if I wanted. I'm not wanting to kill it so I'm nervous to change anything. Right now I have it above my inside pond where it gets filtered light and the cats can't get at it. Any hints?

Jonna, I would wait for it to pup and then use one of the pups to experiment with mounting. Big established plants are set in their ways and don't like to be messed with as far as their growth environment goes. It's a beauty. I have a few very similar plants but to ID Neoregelias is almost impossible as there are so many different hybrids. As far as watering is concerned, a couple weeks doesn't sound right to me. The tank should always contain water and leaving it dry too long is not good for the health of a plant. It wants water in its cup.

I just got a new pocket camera and tried it out today with a few movie tests. This is a walk to some of my broms after the generator noise took me over there. Let's see if I can post a movie here. I still have to learn how to edit, clip and join movies together so this is one segment.

Well, I guess one can't upload mpeg files. Too bad.
