I am wanting to add Daylilies with instant rebloom and I have been looking at K. Emmerich's and R. Norris's introductions. I was wondering if any of you in zone 6a or colder have any of these and if you do, have the plants had instant rebloom for you?

Hello, Looking through the internet I did come across Mike Derrow who is also hybridizing for Northern rebloom including instant rebloom and seems to be using Emmerich and Norris a lot in his program. Looks to have some nice plants. I was hoping that some of you were growing Emmerich or Norris instant rebloom plants and could post about how well the instant rebloom actually is with them. Any info would be great and appreciated.

If you title your post..'Who grows Emmerich and Norris daylilies' , you might get a few more responses. As you notice, its very slow on the daylily forum this time of year. I dont know how to bring up old threads, but someone might also be able to pull up the threads on reblooming from the past few years, for you to read over.

I don't grow any those but I did get rebloom on Emmerich's Heartbeat of Heaven this year.

Thanks for your responses. Pam, I have been using the search engine and have found some useful info with it. I have noticed that it has slowed down here, witch seems funny because now that winter is close, I will have more time to spend on-line and I would have thought it the same for most gardeners. I'm hoping that there will be more posts later on with great discussion, info and of course lots of pictures from the summer.

Gale, I grow many reblooming daylilies here in northern Illinois and would more than happy to help. Most but not all came from Richard Norris, Mike Derrow, Paul Owen, Judy Davisson and Ginny Pearce. All different prices and colors. Some continuous bloom. Some are much prettier than their pictures. The list is long so I'll wait till you see this first.

It's hard to know where to start. Threw a penny it landed on Judy Davisson.
My personal favorites are,
Mister Butters- Blooms early - instant rebloom - 3 years to full strength - long time in bloom - lots of buds
Early Shirley - planted next to Mister Butters - they look good together - same information as MBs
In With The Out Crowd - starts blooming as Early Shirley and MBs are finishing up - 3 years to full strength - Instant rebloom
Reddy Freddy - Mid season bloom for me - 3 years - instant rebloom - lots of buds
Last Blast- late bloom - instant rebloom - lots of buds
Mister Monoply - Mid to late bloom - instant rebloom - lots of buds
Miss Demeanor - same as MM
These are fantastic performers here in my garden. My soil is good and added peat moss into beds 15 or 20 years ago to deal with flooding issues. They get organic fertilizer in spring. Leaves and straw the rest of the year. I finally tried Neptunes this year and they really appeared to perk up quickly after the foliar spray. A big thank you to newyorkrita for mentioning this fert. many times. Should mention that they definitely rebloom and have great bud counts in my garden.

Please know that I'm not the greatest gardener. Killed more than my share of plants. Honestly these are really good daylilies. I like daylilies and roses. Their hard to kill and look great while you figure out what you're doing. Here's a few odds and ends.
Twist Again - a yellow ufo looking flower has a strong green tint in hot weather - starts a little before mid season and continues until frost - I love this one and even with the continuous bloom it's not a rapid increaser. I have one thats 4 years old it still does not need dividing.
Another from Mike Huben is Early and Often. It's a little daylily in flower and foilage. Blooms spring till frost and still has slow increase. Creamy yellow flower. Both of these can be tucked in anywhere since they have blending colors with slow increase. Since I go to bed at ten. If you don't mind

At the top of any Daylily forum thread, you can click on "Daylilies Forum" to bring up the forum threads. You can scan the threads from there, or most browsers have a find function:
press control+f and it will bring up a "Find" box. Type in the box what you want it to search for, perhaps "rebloom", and press enter. It will find everywhere on the page where your entry is found. Remember, if a forum or thread has more than one page, you'll need to search each page individually.

Your garden looks beautiful Pat!!! May I ask what that lovely purple daylily is in the second pic?? It really stands out from all the rest.

Patty thanks for sharing those lovely garden pics and blooms. The last flower you have listed as "On And On" is probably Early And Often. On And On is a pink flower that's hybridized by F. Harding.
On And On does bloom for a long time and is a fast increaser around here.

The purple daylily is Grape Starburst (H Stout). I have 2 remaining Stout Garden daylilies in the garden. Sadly they have not done well up here. The other is Plum Kisses. They remain because they are two of five that show strong blue eyes. Not many daylilies can do that up here. I may not be correct but they seem prone to leaf streak and should do better in a drier climate. I see GS has been dropped from Stouts web site. May I say that I hate leaf streak disease. Slug damage isn't pretty either.

Okay now back to rebloom. Hopefully with no more mistakes. In the beginning seems like most hybridizers all have their look-a-likes until they find their niche that makes them stand out in the field. Richard Norris has in the last 3 years or so has been able to introduce daylilies that are truly spectacular for northern gardens. I have or had most all of his early introductions and some of the later. Lusting for a few that are as of now seriously out of my price range. Just mentioning how plant stands out. Most of his plants are much nicer than his pics show.

Quiet Wyatt - flower - rebloom - Have 4 daylilies that look just like this one. Quiet Wyatt is the best performer of the five
Ruby Grandeur - No rebloom - but what a deep true red (amazing)
Mitch Lynd - Richard needs a photographer for his birthday (so do I) - I'd say color on this one is the darker shade on Mars Attacks (P Owen) and
Untangle My Emotions (N Bremer) All 3 plants compliment each other. All 3 rebloom and look great planted with euphorbia bonfire, Sedum Blue Zinger and Carex Blue Zinger.

All Norris plants that have re bloom in their description do so in my zone 5a.

Do not have many Emmerich daylilies. One was spectacular this year. Born To Reign was set temporarily in a rose bed with very rich soil. This was to see how she would do with less afternoon sun. In full sun she would wilt for me. Holy cow what a difference that made. Foliage was beautiful standing straight up without wanting to bend. Every fan had a scape. Every scape had 30 or more buds. Each fan rebloomed with another good load of buds. Personally believe it was more do to the soil than the sun.
Forty days and Forty Nights Is another one that does very well and I really like the color. Well branched, very well budded with good rebloom.
Intelligent Design - Great performer - good plant - re bloomed 3 times this year

Gale, You will notice that I don't have many fancy face daylilies. Most years we have a lot of morning dew, some years cooler over night temps. Most fancy edged daylilies just won't open well. Even if I hand release them they're not as good as when they open them selves. I have been to the pacific northwest and seen the difference between one side of the mountains climate and the other side. It was amazing to me anyway to drive from such arid conditions to lush tropical looking land in such a short time. In other words it's all where you live and your climate. Richard Norris's sister live in the pacific northwest and would trial his daylilies there to see how well they would do in those conditions. I have found him to be a kind man and if ask a question will do his best to give an answer. This is also true of Gary Schaben (have some beautiful performers from him),Mike Derrow and Paul Owen. I was stunned at the patience these folks had for a little old lady gardener. Ginny Pearce fits in here as well.
