We do not have many rocks here...it is more clay. Pshaw...our highest point is Mount Driskoll at 535 feet. That being said, we just use family names for the ones we do have...

a large family we call The Fraggles are scattered around and we have a Mother Horta and her Hortettes...they pretty much stay in one place. I have a place for two fairly large Rocks, and they already have names...Dwayne and another to be named Steve....They will be the corner stones for a bed I am working on Whistling

And that reminds me, I used to have the 'Fraggle Rock' theme song as my ring tone. Must look for it again!

Lots of names coming to mind, but I've run out of rocks for now. Rock Hudson? (especially for a New York rock) A round-ish rock named Rock n Roll?

Asa, you could make your yard into a rock hunt. Go around and mark the rocks with little Roman numerals then challenge someone (kids?) to first find Rocky, then all the numerals in order?

I've always loved the "stone soup" idea (and story)... and that gives me an idea for a fun family get-together! And I could give everyone a nice rock to take home afterward Big Grin

We have lots of small worthless rocks in our soil. I say worthless because they are just big enough to have to be picked out, and not big enough to be useful for anything of course, and not pretty to look at. Just old jaggy edged clay things about the size of a baseball. I have never named a rock, but I do have favorites and I know all of my rocks (there must be several hundred) and I recognize them. I do think rocks have a front and a back, or a top and bottom. And when I moved, I took most of them with me. In fact I packed some of them in boxes and did not tell my dh, who probably would not have moved them if he knew what it was Smiling

We did move a few major rocks when we moved out here and I'm thrilled I insisted on it.

Major Rocks? You mean like Major Payne? (didn't even try to resist that one--my sister LOVES that movie and is constantly quoting one of the lines)

Yes, major rocks (as opposed to Major Rocks). My husband figured the movers wouldn't take them but they did and I am thankful.

I'm not a movie goer, Debra. I think the last one we saw was My Big Fat Greek Wedding. They're just too loud! We did see the Clint Eastwood one and I believe that was probably more recent.

I don't watch them much, either, these days, Arlene. This one she had on DVD because she and the grandkids loved it. There is a line the Major says just before he is going to do something unpleasant to one of the military school cadets, "Oh, chilllldren..." She would quote that back to the kids every time she was giving them a hard time about something. Smiling

We have a DVD player and people have given us DVDs but my husband has to learn how to use the player and it's been about 6 years and it hasn't happened yet. If I'm the one that learns it then I'll be called upon to use it - no thanks. Same reason for not having a cell phone, or any new electronic gadgets.
