I've been thinking about that myself, Sue. It could help people ID unknowns as well as have an all-in-one-place to drool.

Mary, you need more lilies, you don't have anywhere near enough of them yet. Did you know that Oregon was the heart of lily hybridizing country in the past? Lots of lily history here, mostly in the north part of the Willamette Valley....

Oregon Bulb Farm was the big one, dating back to the 1940s, if I remember right. They did daffodils originally, then got hooked on lily hybridizing; bankrupt in the late 80s. The Lily Garden was started by a former employee. Ed McRae came from Scotland and created many lilies including the Pixie group. Cebeco was another company located here. I'm sure this isn't all, just off the top of my head.

We could certainly add a database if everyone wants it. Tracey and I had talked about it originally. Now with Pard on board to, it would be much easier, as I am not very lily knowledgeable, although I'm learning.

What datatbases are out there now for lilies?

First one looks like a Spider Lily. hymenocallis liriosme

Second one looks like a Resurrection Lily to me, also called Surprise Lily, Magic Lily, and Naked Lady. Lycoris squamigera.

But I could be wrong. Sticking tongue out

Well that is what I answered on Cubits but I am not familiar with the species. I have seen Lycoris grown around here but it is not common in this area.

Debra I agree 100% with your assessment of the second photo. It's Lycoris squamigera.

First one is also commonly called a Peruvian daffodil. Lovely pics. I always loved the term naked ladies, or nekked as it sometimes is put.

Oh look what I got today for $1.49 on a 75% off sale! http://www.growingcolors.com/i...

Mine is about half as big as the description says it should be, but it is growning in a 4 inch pot since the dark ages. However, it did have 6 blooms this year! so all is not lost.

Pretty lily Mary! If you can transfer it to a larger pot (fall is best time) it will grow taller next year and maybe even produce some offsets.

OneWish, that lily is one strange lily. Are there more like it on the plant or is it the only one? It would be suspect to me, but I don't know what your growing conditions have been like this year.

Maybe Mags or Pard will jump in here and give a more educated opinion...

I took these shots yesterday in Zuzu's garden, it's about 6.5 to 7 ft tall and blooms are just HUGE!! Anyone have any idea what it may be?

Connie, I already repotted it. The roots had been circling for quite a while. I trimmed some, opened the bottom of the root mass a bit and put it in a larger pot. I'll keep it in mostly shade for a couple of weeks. Should I trim off the stubs that were the centers of the blooms? There'd be seeds in there, right? If it wouldn't set the plant back too much I'd like to keep at least one of those and try to grow some of the seed.

Yes, trim the seed pods off. Lilies are generally self sterile so unless you have some other variety of Asiatic lily close by you probably won't get seeds. It won't hurt though if you want to keep a pod on just in case.
