I sent a message to Brecks asking if they received any other messages about this one.. still waiting for an answer back

Allison, I don't think it is virus because, at least in my experience, virus affects all of the blooms. It looks more environmental, especially if you have been affected by that heat wave. Let us know if you hear back from Breck's.

yes we have had a crazy year.. had a 100+ degree day in early June.. up and down all year.. was pretty mild at the start of summer.. and then the nasty heat and no rain for a long time.. I will let you know what they say.. and thanks

the foliage looks ok.. and also makes me think it's not a virus.. but just odd right?

I had one of those double-orientals and the blooms looked just like that. Never completely opened and the petals almost had a woody texture. Sorta bloomed for 2 years then disappeared.
Where are we going, and why am I in this hand-basket?

From Brecks
I do not believe this is due to a virus. The foliage appears extremely healthy. The blooms could just be stressed due to high temperatures.

If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

Sue, somehow I totally missed your post, looks like everyone else did, too.

Anyone recognize this lily?

Judging by the shape of the flower (more tubular) I would suggest Triumphator over Friso/Silk Road (more bowl shaped, buds shaped more like cigars). The buds of Triumphator are narrower where they meet the pedicel, then kinda balloon towards the end of the bud. These two lilies look extremely similar when viewed straight on. Now me, I haven't seen Triumphator in person, so maybe someone who grows it will pipe up.

Triumphator gets its bud shape from the influence of the Easter Lily in its background.

My 2 cents worth.

That does like similar, except it says it only gets 3-4 ft tall, this was well over 6 ft.

Zuzu's lily is not Friso. Friso has a dark purple or violet stigma. Zuzu's lily has a green stigma. Small detail, I know, but it at least eliminates Friso and other lilies with dark colored stigmas.

Zuzu's lily has a green stigma, so it could be Triumphator. I do think it is an LO (longiflorum oriental hybrid), as is Triumphator.

As for height, what we need now is someone who is known to grow lilies very well and has grown Triumphator. That person is magnolialover. Hope she weighs in on this Big Grin .

Weighing in...it certainly could be 'Triumphator'. I had 'Triumphator' on the east side of the house and it grew 5 bto 6 feet tall. I had it in the front actually, because I had planned for it to be the 3 or 4 feet it was advertised. Well, had to move that lily after two years. I see this with a lot of LO lilies, they get really tall! The stalks are thick and can take the height, which is nice, no staking Hurray!

And 'Friso' (which may also really be 'Silk Road', have both, look identical, and bloom at the same time,) also has a different leaf structure. Triumphator is a better hypothetical guess than Friso. Though whoever it is, it is most certainly very pretty.
