Our "un-amended" soil is quite sandy, so I put them in an Un-amended area of the bed. Plus, I planted them, on a slightly elevated mound of soil, and left the rhizome totally "above ground", and then added pure silica sand (about 1") to bring the level up to the top of the rhizome. Hopefully, they will survive ! If I have any luck , I'd LIKE to try a pure aril, or two. I'm thinking "pea-gravel", 3"-4" deep, over a sandy base, in an area that gets protection from the North, and West winds, with a full-sun exposure, MAY allow it. ( I love to experiment
