Very nice peonies. I garden too on just under an acre. I still have grass so there is still room for plants Big Grin My other love would be lilies (lilium) and I am fortunate that they take up less space...well unless you start them from seed like I do. Whistling but that's a whole separate problem.

HI All
I as most everyone else am a peony lover that has ties back to grandma and the ones she had.
Of course growing them in
Texas is a challenge but I am always up for that especially when it comes to flowers and being told I can't grow that here.
The picture is of a plant a good friend back home in Illinois gave me since she could never get it to grow and bloom
I love all the colors but my fav. is the white as kids growing up grandma showed you can cut them and put them in water with food coloring and turn the edges whatever shade you put in it...but the smell is wonderful regardless. :-)

mibus2: I never heard of using food color to change coloring on the edges of the peonies. Do you have any pictures of before and after. Is there a special trick, such as waiting till the buds have fully opened or adding the food color to a newly cut stem with closed buds?

Here is a couple more of some of the peonies I am growing. Sorry I do not get back here as often as I should. Busy learning a lot about growing iris and such. From top to bottom: Peppermint Pattie, Sarah Bernhardt, Crinkled Linens, unknown, Circus Circus. Thanks everyone. Enjoy

Sarah Bernhardt turns out to be the variety which I brought from my home in WI 40 yrs ago. Many good childhood memories came with it.

Doglover wait until they are blooming then cut them to bring in for bouquet and add what ever color you want to the water then they will suck it up. Sorry I don't have any pictures at this time but if I remember come spring I will do it and take some.

Ticker - Tyler is 2 hours east of Ft. Worth we are 2 hours east of Dallas area and 2 hours West of Shreveport.
What kind of Peonies ...heck if I know they didn't come with a name.
Are you in northern Iowa? I moved down here from Belvidere Illinois

I'm in the middle of eastern Iowa. The Cedar Rapids - Iowa City area.

You want to see some pretty peonies, check out Hollingworth peonies. You'll be drooling in minutes.

You might also check out the Heartland Peony Society. They are a wonderful resource.

I understand that transplanting a tree peony, now would be the time. It has time to acclimate to its new space and the temperatures are not as hot typically.

Keep it watered in weekly through November, like you would any tree you would plant.

Will do. The 1st year it had a single bloom, last year (2nd), it had 10 or 11 after removing all but the terminal bud. Unfortunately they mostly got mangled by heavy rain.
