Hi. I'm Donna Mack and I have been lurking for weeks (even posting) without properly introducing myself. I am a relative late comer to peonies (by way of grasses, shrubs, bulbs, especially lilies and roses), but fell in love with this beautiful flower. I started with the oldest double cultivars but have learned, with much help from Steve, of the beauty of the modern hybrids, and particularly singles.

Came back this morning to my peonies, and loved them all the more, although Adelman's beauties just teach you that you have a lot to learn (like you must move to Oregon1!

Hello, i 'm Cora. Have a couple of peonies that comes back every year bought it from local nursery here. I always want tree peonies but around here they are just too expensive for me. Pike's nursery sells it for $80 dollars(three gallon) plus tax. I afraid if i spend that much then died i will be very upset.

Sorry folks, this is the first time I saw a peony fourm, but I guess I'm like the rest of us, too busy to venture.I have always been a peony lover, since a German war prisioner took the time to teach me about the peony. He had been a garner apprentis, and could do wonders with any plant.I was a very small boy then, and this is one of my first lessons. It may, or may not surprise you, that around 1950, I was able to dig, and move the same peony he had told me about, and I have it here in my yard, in Ga., moved fron N.C.I have never spent the seven years, that he said it would take, to grow it from seed, but I have divided it about every 5 Yrs. Mike

I ran the Wonderful World of Peonies Co-op for members of this cubit only, your name was not on my co-op list. Mamajack ran the huge Hollingsworth Co-op, so I assume your order was with that.

Hi All,

Guess I am a johnny (or jeannie) come lately to this Peony introductions forum.

I got my start with peonies when a friend from San Francisco asked if I wanted her peonies that she got from her sister. She said that they have never bloomed for her and she is getting rid of them. Never one to turn down free stuff, I said "sure." Thumbs up

I put them into the ground, and since I am in a slightly colder climate (zone 9a), than San Francisco, I had high hopes. When they actually did bloom for me, I was hooked. That was about 15 years ago. From my start of 3 herbaceous peonies from her, I now have about 2 dozen of the herbaceous, 6 tree peonies, and my first ITOH purchased in the fall of 2009. I did not get the ITOH into the ground until last November, and am really keeping my fingers crossed that I will get a first bloom this year.

Hi, I've been lurking. I am a peony wanna-be gardener. I love the herbaceous peonies that my mother grew, and am looking for peonies that will grow in Phoenix, AZ. I'm told I may have to go with tree peonies, but still want to try the herbaceous peonies. I thing it's worth a shot as my neighbor is successfully growing hydrangeas (although she only gets pink unless she amends soil consistently).

Dog Lover Peonies Irises Lilies Hostas Daylilies
Hi folks: I am caught between my love of peonies and now my love of iris. I have always loved iris, just always had probelms with soft rot and those nasty iris borers. I have been busy bouncing around all these forumas and threads, having a great time. New to both sites basically since June and July.

I just do not have enough computer time so I can get back here as often as most of you folks do. When I do, I will try to share more pictures. I have added some to another thread about peonies. Like some of you, I too need a new computer. That won't happen till fall, so meanwhile I have to look back thru many discs that I stored thousands of garden pictures. you folks know what I mean about pictures. Take as many as you can everyday, there is always something to shoot.

As far as peonies, they are just part of the complete package, This was my mother's favorite flower and I too have many that have been passed down for over 70 years. When they get that old,the importance of splitting them takes into effect. I have to say it is much easier for me to grow peonies. Great soil, No hard clay! Just dig a hole and plant them and keep them watered till establised. Just like a lot of other plants we have to take care of. I am not a professional, just a home gardener with a wild passion for peonies. Just seems to have to have another one when I see one I like. I think it is a sickness.

Most of the gardeners around here are so in a hurry to cut them back after they have bloomed, then complain they do not have very good success growing them.

Definately check out Hollingsworth Peonies for some great growing advice and great roots. Klehms Songsparrow sells beautiful peonies also.

Most of you garden on acreage, I only have 1 acre and need more room. Here are some spring pictures from last year. Hope to be able to add more of some of this years here.

Don't worry about those ants. They love those peonies and do not come into my house. Will try to get back when I can. hope I waas able to encourage others as much as I have been enocuraged with growing iris again.

I do not know the name of the huge red one, it was passed down to me. We all know about getting free plants. Thanks everyone
