This tree was uprooted during a wet and windy storm today. (12/11/14) It missed the 1903 Queen Ann victorian completely.

How sad but so thankful it missed the house.

Went to have a look-see. Such an unusual tree for this zone (9b) and such an interesting tree in many respects. It appears to have some root rot. Mushrooms ring the base of it.

The wood looks beautiful. Hopefully someone will be able to take it to a sawmill and make something from it.

That sure was a beauty. Very sad.
A few years ago, near the Botanical Garden where I work, there was some road work being done. One of these trees was 'in the way' and had been flagged for removal. A friend of the Garden called us, we talked to several people and the long and short of it was that we ended up moving the tree into our Gardens where it now has a beautiful place.

So sorry about the beautiful tree, Leslieray. Although I am happy it missed that beautiful house.

I saw these unusual trees in in Disneyland, I think. So cool looking. That must have been an old one to be so large. What a shame.
