I have read similar advice from different experts. They all say one can have too many eyes for a meager root system to feed. I follow the advice to try to have at least 2 or 3 roots attached to a crown of not more than 4 or 5 eyes. I guess that is where the term 3 to 5 eyes for a high quality division comes from.

Connie, I first laid eyes on a Red Charm peony at Henrietta's in Burtonsville, Md. when my husband and I attended our first plant swap. Her gardens are so breathtaking and the one peony bush that I knew I just had to have was Red Charm.. It was so beautiful in her gardens, as was everything she had planted but that really stood out in my mind to be put on my Wish list. The Adelman's catalog is laying on the floor beside my bed now, with other gardening catalogues and magazines. My elderly neighbor across from me has some of the dark burgundy peonies that are blooming now but she probably wouldn't remember the name of them if I asked her. She has a man do her flowerbed maintence but I've never seen him divide them for her. She is in her early 90's and has a live-in caregiver and I've often thought about asking her that when he comes for the Fall maintence work, if she will allow him to dig up one of her peony bulbs/rhizomes(?) I bet she would let him do it if I can ever remember to do it. He would never do it unless she gave him permission. I have two peony plants that the previous owner of this house had planted. We are not overly fond of it but this year, it seems to be prettier than ever except I have to remember to buy two strong ring supports for it to grow up in come next Spring. My peony bushes produce a bloom that is light pink but center looks more white. Will have to look through Adelman's catalog and see if I can recognize it and put a name to it.

I don't see it in the Adelman peony gardens catalogue; who are some other companies that specializes in growing peonys?

Hi Pippi! Since I don't grow peonies myself I really don't have a recommendation to make. Maybe others on this forum will kick in.

I did snoop around on the internet a little and found some places that sell Red Charm, for example, here:

If you do mail order be sure to check the Garden Watchdog first:

Hard to believe a year has passed and Adelman's Peony Walk 2012 is just 3 weeks away!

If a grower you are looking at doesn't have Red Charm listed this year they may have it next year. Smiling They rotate their peony selection year to year.
