Ain't that a fact Debra! Hilarious!

Thanks for the interest in these aluminum can projects all and:

Yes Sharon! I do use regular scissors in an to do most work on these. I stab and cut down in even strips and then use a good quality primer paint for metal such as Krylon to base coat. After that I use a combination of latex and house paints to create the effects. The final seal for me is a clear Matte sealer instead of a glossy one;...but that's just my personal preference.

These are a new finished one (giant Cereus look) and a fantasy Orchid that has just been built and roughed in before final paint.

For the record (and for Sharon) I contacted Rust-oleum regarding their Painter's Touch primer, which is what I used on my plastic pot. This was their very prompt answer:

"Thank you for contacting Rust-Oleum Product Support.

If you are using our Painter's Touch Primer brush on version, you are able to top coat with an acrylic paint after 24 hours. If you are using the Painter's Touch Primer aerosol version, you will be able to apply an acrylic based paint after 3 days. The Painter's Touch brush on primer would not be ok for plastic but is ok for metal. The Painter's Touch aerosol primer is ok for both plastic and metal. We hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to contact us if any additional information is needed."

They definitely get points for their almost instantaneous answer (just over an hour!). I used the aerosol primer and it's very nice to use; covers much more quickly than some of the other spray paints I've used.

I've been doing art and working with so many mediums for so long, I trust my own knowledge.

Its good to know the "experts" are so willing to answer. I wonder if those answering actually use the products themselves, or read from their corporate tutorial handbooks?

Make sure to use a primer for metal and all follow coats should fare well. Smiling

Well, the question I posed them had to do with using the primer on plastic (I'm playing with decorating some cheap plastic pots), so their response had more to do with plastic than metal. Smiling
Do you have any close and personal experience with using latex or acrylic over oil based paints? Just curious if the information I was given so long ago had any basis in reality! Hilarious!

Acrylic paints over oil based enamels have always worked for me... I would never use oil over acrylic however. Flat (spray paint) oil colors are best for painting acrylics over.

I thought I could make out vulgar (had no clue on rudely); was gonna say that She is hardly common or ordinary but She is definitely conspicuous!

I think She sings ♪♫, David. And if I wasn't so drained right now I 'd make up a little vulgar verse for Her Hilarious!

Wow, I love art of any form and this is just so creative! I have seen the huge metal dayliies in gardens and never dreamed of using a drink can. I will be trying to replicate a daylily, daisy or iris. Thanks for showing your work and inspiring others!
