I just finished a major relocation of an amaryllis bed: 48 bulbs were in full sun for 4 years. Each year, they looked a little bit worse than the year before and only 6 bloomed this spring. I pulled them up, none had rooted well, and replanted them in front of an established Amaryllis bed that is shaded until 2PM. The shaded bed has beautiful foliage and blooms well. I'm hoping that in a few years, the transplanted bulbs will establish themselves and return to a nice spring blooming. I've come to the conclusion that Amaryllis can't take a full day of Florida sun in the summer, an additional stressor may be the high humidity.
