I got it from a poster with a drawing of a poodle with a mohawk... He was much tougher looking than my little guy.... who just looked like some sort of lunatic with a mohawk. Smiling

A friend of mine in grad school had that poster on his office door. It has popped into my head many times over the years in response to a Fifi situation. Hilarious!

Here are the hybridizers that I have 5 or more of their irises:

Keppel, K. - 54
Blyth, B. - 47
Schreiner - 45
Ghio, J. - 27
Johnson, T. - 25
Sutton (combined...I need to look them up) - 24
Black, P. - 23
Lauer. L. - 16
Tasco, R. - 15
Ernst, R. - 11
Burseen, T. - 10
Beyers, M. - 10
Hager, B. - 9
Kerr, F. - 7
Kasperek, B. - 6
Maryott, W. - 6
Jedlika - 5

Then there are a bunch that I have 1-4 of their cultivars.

Just a note...Schreiner comes up artificially high because I/we don't have the information to sort out the individuals and 'generations' of Schreiner hybridizers. The same goes for Sutton irises on this list because I need to research them and update my database.

(Would have many more for Tasco and Duncan but I don't do facebook ) but I'm going to try to follow Marilyn's directions (from another thread) for Superstition Iris Gardens...

Just my thought but I think this is pretty fair assessment of "my" favorite hybridizer (other than the cost factor) because I buy iris based on the picture on the different websites or at the local ladies home who sells iris. I also have never bought new introductions because of the price. Sorry if I'm forgetting anyone but with Brad's, Greg's, Tom's, Paul's, Arlyn's, Marilyn's, Sue's, Debra's, Leslie's, Bonnie's, Jan's, Lucy's, Sherry's, Mary Ann's, Neal's, Rob's, Kent's, Arlene's, and all of the rest of you enablers here on ATP there have been times I've been tempted though. Hurray!
Barbara

I got many of my rhizomes through the Maine Iris Society. Perhaps my want list will reveal my own tastes better. That will take a lot longer. Here are my "haves", excluding the "ones".

Tie for first place with 6 each; Hager, Black
5 each; Kepple, Aitken, Schreiner
4; Tom Johnson
2 each; Lauer, Salter, Goos & Koenemann, Marky Smith, Zurbrigg, Williamson(s), Boswell.

39 different hybridizers overall.
Don't make fear based decisions.

That is a good representation Linnea. I am a non sophisticate in the iris world. I see an iris I like and I get it. Then I look up its year, hybridizer, bloom time, etc.

An interesting exercise proposed by Greg. Of course there are alternate ways of looking of our gardens and this is one of them.

My partial list out of 79 hybridizers, mostly oldies:

Sass 27 [all in family-J, HP, R]
Cayeux 14 [all in family]
EB Williamson 11
Verdier and all Schreiner 10 each
and at 8 each-AJ Bliss, Sir M Foster

Some of my favorites based on other than quantity get tossed to the bottom of the list since they only have a few to their name, or only a few still available.

Thanks again Sue it worked.

I'm sorry Marilyn, I never saw this before or forgot (those senior moments are horrible) and never got back to you. My Iris were interspersed with other plants but now I have started to make new beds in front of my older beds. This last year I tried planting an Iris then a daylily then an Iris, daylily and so on until I ran out of daylilies to plant. Now after reading Neal's mixed garden-combos thread I want to add some other plants.
If I find any good pictures I will try to post them here.
