Empty plastic food containers, such as those for instant coffee and grated cheese, can be useful around the garden or greenhouse.

Anytime you can repurpose an already purchased item for another household or garden chore you are not only doing yourself a favor you are keeping one more thing out of the landfills. If everyone would do this it would mean we buy less and waste less. This will enrich our lives and cause less damage to our planet. Kudos for the idea! I encourage everyone who reads this idea to pass it on to someone who may not read it. Thanks for posting this idea.

I agree It just makes sense all the way around. I use small jars such as baby food jars to store seed in.
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others.

I liked these specific containers because they are perfect for folks like me with limited hand grip and wonky balance. I can shake-shake-shake whatever is needed, where ever it is needed and not worry about accidentally letting loose of it in glomps that I then have to go back to, TRYING to pick up all the excess that should be going somewhere else. Big Grin Big Grin In November, I used the Parmesan container to evenly portion out a quarter pound of wildflower seeds in four of the beds. Got a nice consistent spread.

Great idea, Debra. I use the small spice containers with the shaker top for small seeds. I suppose most of us who are older remember the days when we didn't have a throwaway mentality. I have to commend my granddaughter for not using those horrible disposable diapers for our newest grandchild. As far as I am concerned they are a needless expense.

They also work well for drowning slugs and Japanese beetles as you pick them off plants. Great article, Debra!

Great idea! Next Summer, I'll have to that. I tip my hat to you. Thumbs up I usually throw the bugs to the ground and try to step on them quickly.
