The Orchidarium has bubble stones to create increased humidity, and fluorescent grow lights. It really dose help keep my orchids alive, despite me😁

We are to have 35 degrees in Alabama tonight and tommorow night in lower zone 8
but I have a salvia in bloom, a perennial .
We think this is the last cold ...we have already been up to 87 degrees one day
in Mid March..

Attached picture and it loves the cool winters here and stays green
it will not bloom in june to sept when the temps get above 90-95 and
higher..although it is suppose to ..
it is the two toned microph.. variety.

Wow what kind of salvia is that? I'm in similar zone and I don't have any salvia stay green during winter.

Judy, I'm not Sheri, but Autumn Sage, Salvia Greggii(sp?) stay green here in Orangeburg (zone 8a) throughout our winters. I think I have Furman's Red and have had it for 3 years. I'll be looking for others to add. If protected it from frost, Blue Bedder Sage or Victoria Blue or white, will also stay green here. Check them out. Oh, I just hate it. Our low for tonight is 31. Brrrr......... Poor plants. Thumbs down

Arlene, I agree with Pirl.
Sheri, love the Salvia. I bet the hummers hang around that plant among others. Found daffs blooming on the south side of the house this morning.

When compare to the other daffs around the other parts of the garden, nothing else comes close in size. I am going to move a clump of Endless Heart daylily in this same area against the house and see how early it can bloom. EH was the first to bloom here in 2014, in late May.

Thanks Mike..they are my veteran drought tolerant plants that handles our extremely dry and soon to be very hot summer. This is their little window of time to bloom, before the extreme dry heat puts them in semi-dormant mode. Smiling
