Mike ....

There is a cone flower with the same name as the rose and it really does look like the rose ... Smiling

The rose 'Pink Poodle' has very good repeat bloom unlike what I have read about the cone flower.

Ralph Moore actually bred a rose that visitors to the nursery begged him to introduce into commerce that he named 'The Dahlia Rose' and introduced late in his life.

http://www.helpmefind.com/rose...

He considered the rose to be a weak plant and thought it would not be a good garden rose in many climates, which is why he held off introducing it. However, it was an interesting floribunda and he did finally release it.

Lyn

I agree, Mike. Simply beautiful.

My garden is still a young garden in many ways, so I don't have anything other than roses in bloom. Here are a few photos I took last night.

Darcy ...

I live in the mountains about five hours north of Sacramento. However, I did start my rose life in San Diego ... better known as "Rose Heaven". Smiling This climate is not quite as rose friendly.

I am using my old camera because I am still in the learning curve stage with my new camera. I feel guilty taking the time to take photos because I still have a lot to do to button things up in the garden.

The old camera is an Olympus D-460Zoom. I love my newer camera, but I haven't gotten it down, yet .. Whistling

Thank You!

These are the last of the roses for the year and that seems to make each bloom more important.

I am looking forward to adding other plants to the garden.

Thank you, Mike.

Poof ... they are gone, it rained all day yesterday. I have three days before the next rain is scheduled. Acutally, the roses have four days. (I can't count today for me because I have to go over the mountain for a dentist appointment.) I may be able to get some more bloom shots on Saturday.

There are still a lot of buds on the roses. Since the day temps will be in the 70s for a few hours, the buds may open. Night temps will still be in the 40s to high 30s, so those buds won't freeze. 70F is the tipping point for roses to slow down photosynthesis. Some of the roses will still be active enough to open the buds, while others will already be closing down.

The next rain will be Sunday and Monday and night temps will drop to freezing on Tuesday night.

I have three major tasks to complete before Sunday's rain.

There's still more work to be done, but those three jobs are the last of the winter prep tasks. Since I am running out of steam, I am feeling grateful for the coming rain ... Big Grin

Lyn

First real freeze here last night. Not expecting many more blooms. Dug up cannas, begonia and a couple mandavillas and will try overwintering them in a cool basement room.

Looking forward to everyone's blooms next year.

Happy Halloween everyone.
Flower looks very nice Clint, I think I will get one more bloom from Hot Papaya and that will be it for the garden this year. Most of the garden is cut down for the year with the Mums fading quick.

I rarely water the Echinaceas. They thrive on neglect here.
