After battling with the wasps today, I went out and took pictures of what was blooming in my flower beds. Here is what I saw.

@Weedwhacker Thank you Sandy. I love being outside in my flower beds and gardens even when I am weeding. There is always so much to do. I am getting a little behind now that the veggies are ripening and I am canning and freezing.

Jeanne, have you had to battle Japanese Beetles this season, I am in Omaha and they are awful. And I just adore your gardens, beyond beautiful!
I always want to cry when winter is going to come, I want it to be flower season all year! Thanks for sharing all those pretty pictures, you are really
great at flower gardening I can sure tell.

@freedombel Thank you for your kind words. I love my flowers and decorating my beds. To be truthful, there has been so much work this year battling the weeds and grass growing where I don't want it, that I am half way happy to see winter come so I can rest up. Although, I really don't like the cold and sometimes large snowfalls that we get. I just wish that winter didn't last so long.

I have not had any problems with Japanese beetles this year. I have been battling wasps. My DH and I have both been stung by them. He is really allergic to them and so far, I am not.

the neighbors around here are as vigilant as I am so it can be under control. I imagine yo need to rest up, I can tell by the looks of it
you have worked very hard to keep it looking nice, well done! Hurray!

@Reine I am glad that you liked my flowers. I still have work to do in my garden area which is on the north side of our yard. We have bought the posts and rails for the 2-rail fence to put around my 8 raised bed flower garden but have not gotten to it yet due to the hot, humid weather and now all the rain is keeping us from working on it. The playground needs to get seeded down with grass seed. I used to have wood chips in it but have decided to go back to grass. Between the playground and my garden shed I wanted to put a Pergula or something similar but this spring I planted my peppers and vining plants there. Now I have to wait until I harvest my pumpkins, squash, and Indian Corn. I still have the area in front of my garden shed that needs work. I need to decide what I want growing on both sides of the walk way. I probably won't get the majority of this side of the yard done until next year. I will post some pictures soon.

Wouldn't it be something if we could make a flower bed, plant it just the way we want, and then not have to do any more work on it?? THAT's the flower garden that I need nodding

@gardenglassgems My sister and I put our property up for sale. Half way through a 3 year contract, we've decided we don't want to sell. So I am so ready to add some flowers, shrubs and such in the ground.

We have 4 ½ acres and most of it is wooded and will most likely stay that way, but I'll do one area around my home at a time. Sure would like some lovely flowers to enjoy like you and others have.

It's been a while since I have posted here so I am going to add pictures of what is blooming in my Iowa flower beds. I am not one for posting the names of the plants I am showing. So I hope you enjoy the blooms anyway. This area is right in front of the house. I have dedicated each end of this bed to my parents. The flag pole center was my very first flower bed after we built our home.

Here are some of my flower beds taken so far this year. Some have not had the mulch replenished yet.
1st pic taken 5/17/2016/2nd taken 4/17/2017 a work in progress. I am planting mostly Iris here besides a few other plants already there. This is behind the "Outhouse garden" along the horse pasture.

This is the flower bed that runs along the whole backyard. It starts at the horse pasture and goes to the 4-rail fence that runs along the north side of our acreage where our 2-rail veggie raised bed garden and our 2 rail Flower raised bed gardens and Asparagus patches are located. The 2nd picture is the 2-rail Flower raised bed area in the NE corner of the back yard.
