Question: Does anyone know if E6000 will take the silver backing off of rhinestones, etc.? Plain old white glue won't, but I need something much stronger than that. In the past I've used various things like Super Glue, model glue, and others ... and they will eat right through the backing of rhinestones and mirrors.

I don't have the answer Tee but I bet some of the real experts will come along shortly and help you out.

I don't have the answer about #-6000. I love tacky glue though. And it's strong.

Becky, what is tacky glue? Will it hold up to a lot of handling?

Tee, I think it will. I made angles with it and them don't come close to being broken.

OK. I have some of the Aleene's permanent fabric-bonding glue and that works well on fabric and is washable. I know I've seen the regular Tacky Glue at WM so I'll check over there and see what they have. Sometimes it says on the container if it is safe to use with mirror, rhinestones, and so forth. That instant bonding type would be useful for a few projects too. Thanks!

I was at Michael's the other day looking at the different glues. I did see a glue made specifically for those sparkly do-dads. Can't remember the name of it though.

Here's what I just found doing a search on yahoo:

Many types of glue are acceptable for attaching rhinestones or crystals, except (1) the isocyanate glues (e.g., instant adhesives), (2) any glue containing acetone, and (3) hot glue. There are several brands of glue that are specifically formulated for bonding rhinestones or crystals to fabric. Our recommended adhesives & glue product line includes Beacon Gem-Tac, E-6000, Devcon epoxies, and Aleene's.

Now that I read this, the glue I saw at Michael's was Gem-Tac.

Thanks Sally. I already have a few tubes of E-6000 on hand. So looks like it would be safe for the rhinestones and mirrors.

Every little bit of information is useful. I'm not into doing some projects but knowing what you can and cannot use sure helps, just in case..............

I found a good recipe for making sand clay and here are my latest creations. The first is completely cured and the second is in the process of drying. I'm please with how these came out.
