Fog during the day is a totally foreign thing here, but you know how it goes here.

I appreciate each type of weather...it's been sunny and or clear so I've been busy outside...rain tomorrow would be good because it's the only way I can make myself stay in and clean...I'm not real big on cleaning...it doesn't really advance you any or 'create' anything....what good is that? I have a neighbor who does not spend much time outside and is a compulsive cleaner, has to stop herself from vacuuming everyday....I'm speechless.................lol....

I've met people who vacuumed every day, but they had three house cats. I put the cat door out of commission a long time ago. Whistling

Hey Sherry, What kind of Jasmine you are going to get from HD? I just moved my hopefully out-of-dormant jasmine confed out to patio and it looks like half-dead! ...

Yours looks like a Star Jasmine and HD usually has both....I had one Pink Jasmine but needed another. I have Star Jasmine also but don't know yet if I will need more, they're both plants that I usually keep on hand, waiting to decide where to use them. You'll probably be seeing Pink Jasmine right now at most nurseries since it's coming into bloom. Got only one of my Pink Jasmines planted today, need to make wire baskets and that slows me down...hate making baskets...

Sherry, you mentioned buying plants at Home Depot. I keep hearing they use chemicals that are not bee-friendly. Does that worry you? Is there a way to flush the chemicals out of the plants?

I think that unless you specifically go to a grower who does not use soil drenches and states such, that they all do. HD buys from various growers as I understand, unless that has changed...I don't know if HD makes any applications of any sort other than water to the plants...are they concerned with the manner in which the plants are raised by the growers? I hardly think so. There are 4 nurseries here , none of them growers. They're retailers and I doubt that the wholesalers they buy from abstain from using chemicals. Two of the wholesale sources are Monrovia and T&L...I've seen no statements from either of those declaring they're chemical free, though I've not researched it. All I can do is provide as much wild native grown plants that they're used to here (what was already growing wild on the property) and seed grown to offset and, hopefully provide choices of not only 'store-bought' plants.....not a lot of choice here, or elsewhere, unless there are blanket bans made on certain chemicals and practices...or you're able to obtain all of your plants from a guaranteed organic grower, I think. When I was growing for the farmers' market, I mixed my own potting soil and propagated from cuttings or seeds, but even then I originally started with one 'acquired' plant from which to propagate.

Have you located guaranteed organic sources from which to purchase?

Sherry, do you grow toyon? That is my favorite native plant for in the landscape. It's been the most rugged of anything we've tried. They don't mind the clay soil or a little bit of summer water. They don't go half dormant and look tired in the summer.

kelli, I love toyon...don't know if it would like it here, but grew a lot of it on the Fallbrook property, our long drive was lined with Toyon, Eucalyptus citriodora, and dodoneas. We were there long enough that it was re-establishing itself with seedlings popping up here and there. I walked the property constantly looking for seedlings and transplanting them to the back drive's border, interplanted with yucca to replace the dying myoporums. I really miss our property down there, but I'm pretty sure the woman who bought it has let everything die by now. At least all of the extremely drought tolerant plants will be surviving...she was / is not a gardener at all.

labeled only as "Heath Tree"....at the Botanical Garden in Brookings, Oregon. Our DG pal, Rebeccanne, who had the nursery in Pistol River, Oregon said that she thinks this one was given to the Garden by her Uncle Ben who's quite the grower of ericas and callunas......I hope so, because then he may have seedlings and I definitely have to have this....the honey-scent when you're near it is really incredible. I kept saying that I don't care for heathers, then I saw this today...wow! (P.S.).....in checking, I find that Tree Heath is Erica arborea....

Kelli, Wonderful Iris Pallida! Always want to grow blue or violet Iris, but skeptical about wrong weather zone. Surprise at your 10a zone still growing Iris so well. How would you opine growing Iris at 9b and in container? Thanks
