Boopaints has asked me to post a few photos of some of the things I’ve done with recycled glass mulch. This is a pathway behind my pond. Our yard slopes dramatically at that corner, so it has become the Secret Garden. This is the glass dry, and again wet.

Recycled glass can be had for free in Austin, Texas at the FM812 Resource Recovery Center....which used to be called the dump. If you shovel it yourself, it’s free. If they load it for you, it’s $9.64 a ton. Either way, that’s a bargain.

http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/sws...

I’ve been using glass mulch since 2006, as near as I can remember. I used to take husband’s truck to the dump in Creedmor, TX and buy rose soil, pecan compost, whatever, and then I saw the sparkly stuff one day and decided I need some on my path. I think it was $20. for a cubic yard back then. You can still buy it at the dump, but it’s more expensive now.

When the glass is crushed and tumbled, it is mixed with sand. I wash the sand off of it before I use it on pots, but not on the path. This is what it looks like after being washed.

A 40" copper firepit we never use anymore. I covered the soil with glass mulch to set off the succulents. It's supposed to make you think of a pond.
You do see the pond,.... don't you????? 'And the water lilies???

And a "fountain" with mulch as the water.

Thanks so much, Sandi, for sharing your glass mulch. Hurray!

I'm living in an apartment home right now with a balcony. First time in 13 years since I wasn't the overseer of my gardens. I really miss having a spacious garden area and now this makes me miss it even more so.

I started a Dream Garden journal for when I buy my own home again. Glass mulch is going to be a priority even if I have to drive to Austin for it!

And yes, as a matter of fact, I do see that pond! Big Grin

Thanks for the invite. I need to find out if Phoenix has any of this...we should since we're so huge and we recycle. But you know what? I love this so much I'm buying a used glass tumbler and a truck of sane when I get my next home. hahaha.

Well, maybe not. Rolling on the floor laughing

I really like the glass too. I need to see if it's available here too. When we go to the convenience center (dump) the recycle bins have us divide the glass. There are 3 bins. One each for clear, brown, green. I wonder why?

I really like your projects Bubbles. That path especially is great. I'm sure they don't do anything like that around here at our recycling centers. Sad

I see it!! I see the pond, and the water lilies, and the mermaid! What a beauty she is! Hilarious!

Seriously, that glass mulch REALLY looks fabulous in your garden! In fact, your garden would look fabulous without it too. Excellent idea, Sandi!!

Even my Yankee husband says "Ya'll" after all these yrs. I wish our recycling ctr would separated the glass. I would love to have just the blue. Thanks for such nice comments too. And nap...there's no mermaid, I'm sorry, she only lives in the minds of those who want to see her.... Rolling on the floor laughing

That's beautiful glass! See, it's right in your own backyard.... I didn't think the prices were too bad either. Didn't look at the shipping, tho.
