Why would they want it deleted from the database?

That was my question. Maybe they re-IDed as something else? Tired of their pic being used?

Possibly mis-IDed, but I imagine if they wanted it to be a subject of discussion, they'd have made the request publicly rather than privately.

Perhaps. Or maybe they didn't want to be perceived as selfish or small-minded. Or rather, to defend the perception.

If I post something on a public forum -- I figure it belongs to the public. If I wanted it to be private...........you see where I'm going.

No matter -- I just thought it was odd.

The owner of the picture contacted me by T-Mail and asked me remove the picture because they were no longer sure the ID was correct. It's no more complicated than that. I'm not sure where this other speculation is coming from, but it's exactly the sort of thing that I would have hoped to avoid by just handling privately.

Well, while we are on the subject, I have posted a few photos that are lacking in focus. However, I would rather see an iris listing with an inferior photo, that correctly represents that particular iris, than one with no photo. So for now, I will continue to add a photo to an iris listing that has no photo. As better photos are posted to that plant I will ask admin to delete any inferior ones I may have posted. I have over a hundred irises that do not have photos on this site. I hope to change that a bit with this springs blooms..... if the weather ever cooperates. So, if you see an iris with only one photo that is slightly out of focus, or has a bit of rain damage, and is by grannysgarden...... just waiting for a better photo to be posted. smiles

That's a wonderful approach, Bonnie. We appreciate any and all pictures that people are willing to add to the database. But, ultimately, they are still your pictures and you are free to do whatever you want with them even after they are posted, including deleting them if you wish. About the only time the admins get involved is when a picture is pretty clearly in an entry where it doesn't belong.

Yup -- I agree. I have posted pictures of an Iris and it turned out to not be the Iris, or was questionable -- and have asked for the photos to be removed. What fueled speculation in this matter was that private handling became public without an explanation. Cabin-fevered minds quickly become intrigued. Curiousity -- simple as that. Don't even know who the person is, so it's still private!
