Hi, I live in California so it's dicey growing hostas here. I have about 50 - well I did last summer. We'll see what comes up this year. My plantigineas are already starting up. They aren't fancy but really perform here. I also grow iris, daylilies, Japanese Maples, and many other things. Some of my hostas are in pots under a black walnut tree but most are under a big oak tree.

Hi Doss!

Chickadee, I live right in the middle of town, a couple blocks south of Wyuka. You really ought to come to the IARU and meet all these crazy Iowans ~ they're awesome.
Where are we going, and why am I in this hand-basket?

Forgive my ignorance, but what is IARU? Something to do with Iowa, I'm assuming?

Hi, I'm Andy - married to Elizabeth ("Conifers") - I do the vegetable and small fruit gardening at our house... I enjoy mini hostas, obscure Japanese varieties, and going out to eat with the garden club. Thumbs up

I also enjoy garden photography. I took this photo at In the Country Gardens at the Hosta and Dessert Social.

I didn't get the name of the lily, I was just in awe that day of all the different hostas and things in bloom. What a cool place. Glad you like the photo!

Hello everyone I go as kenboy and I live in NE Texas. We have grown Hostas for several years but they have only started doing well for the last few years. We have deep red clay and I compost like a mad man. Our soil is now very rich and everything is doing well. I am not hung up on names but it is a way to get colors that you want. I have traded Brugs for Hostas a couple of times and am starting to get a goodly amount. I do not have Hosta beds, I like putting them under our Japanese Maples, Dogwoods, Magnolias and Brugs, they complete the yard. I will be trying to add to my collection this year because we have added to our yard, it is a little over an acre. By for now but I will be back.

Thanks for the invite - it took me awhile but I finally made it and I see a lot of familiar faces from DG! Hurray! My first encounter with Hostas was in the 80's when I was gardening in Maine and given the opportunity to dig plain 'ole "green and white" Hostas from an abandoned farm house. Wow, amazing how time flies and thirty years later I've yet to find a Hosta I don't like! Well...maybe a few Big Grin My move to VA ten years ago proved a little frustrating after growing Hostas in the cool Maine summers but I've adjusted, mainly because I can grow some things I never could in Zone 4! I'm anxious to see those eyes popping out of the ground this spring and look forward to seeing more beautiful photos of the Hostas in your gardens. Smiling

Debbie - I love the pic above. Wondering what you have in it. Looks a bit like 'Chinese Sunrise' and 'Summer Breeze' but I can also think of a couple of other possibilities.

Hello I'm Rannveig and I live in Iceland. I love hostas and have just about bought every one I've come across here ..... the variety is very limited so I'm enjoying all the photos! Smiling I don't have a hosta bed - I just mix them in with other perennials .... with our cool climate they don't need heavy shade although they do well in shaded areas here too. Just need to give them lots of compost, they hate heavy, wet soil .....

When I saw Hostas for the first time they looked so tropical to me I couldn't believe they could be grown up here! To my delight they do very well here, I've only lost one and that was because of heavy, wet soil ..... Most of them don't flower here, but that's OK I just grow them for the foliage :-)

If any of you are interested in learning more about my country and the challenges of gardening here, please check out my cubit: gardening in Iceland Smiling
