Tillandsia grows on telephone and electrical wires all over Central America too. I don't know how seeds stick to/attach to those wires. Shrug!

I don't know much about Tillandsia but these look like those tiny plants hanging on my oak trees and my holly tree. I never see them bloom but I see dried flower stalk on them, not sure if they are the same though because the ones we have seem really tiny plants.

You may be seeing the "Ball Moss". It is very small and has tiny flowers, larger than the Spanish moss, but still tiny. The flowers on the "Broad Needleleaf" are quite large (as is the plant) and the flowers can last for many weeks. The first three pictures are of "Ball Moss" and the last one is "Broad Needleleaf". The Broad Needleleaf has leaves that max out at 12".

That's for sure what they are, Gigi. The ball moss grows on the electrical and phone wires here, too. I've had it take root on the screening of my pool cage as well. The flowers are very small and seem to turn beige or brown quite quickly.

I'm thinking a piece of jute rope would be a fabulous thing to grow Tillandsias on . . we have tons of rope, just none of it is jute. Hmm, well the wires aren't jute either, I guess I could try some of our old sailboat lines. They do hold a little moisture, and some of them are fairly fuzzy from wear so might give a good grip.

I went to HD today and I saw this with tag Tillandsia. I resisted the urge to buy because my eyes were already caught by 2 adeniums that ended up going home with me.

Ken, I love the natural looking Tilly mount. That is so my style! I have a deep fondness for all tillandsia. There are spots in my favorite nearby park where the Spanish moss hangs in 30 foot curtains from the trees. It's a magical plant. I have ball moss EVERYWHERE but I have never seen a purple bloom! Just the crunchy little pods, I guess!

The Tilly seeds have proven to be tough. I have several experiments going...seeds on different media but so far no germination. I also cut my spanish moss with scissors and rehang it in places and it just grows and grows. When it's spoiled in a nursery or home garden setting (regular water & fertilizer) it is such a pretty blue/green color.

Ursula, that pachy baronii bloom is outstanding! Pachys are becoming one of my fav genus. Very nice. I'd like to see the whole plant!

Kate, I just went on the deck to snap a couple of pics - here is the Pachypodium baronii, just emerging from Winter dormancy. It will be fully leafed out in a few weeks. Trying to estimate the age of that one - probably somewhere around 25 years.

Wow, that's a classy looking plant, Ursula. Neat flowers too.

Gigi, I have one of those tillies at home, and they bloom beautifully for a long time off that big pink spathe. The flowers are blue/purple. Think I may need to rush to Home Depot to see if ours has any! I love them. Rarely see anything interesting like that at HD. Lowe's here has a much better nursery.

Ursula that P. Baroni is beautiful.

Elaine thanks for letting me know, I thought the pink is the actual bloom. I think this is the one that I baby sit for my neighbor but hers are on a seashell and she puts a little water only. I agree on Lowes.

Here are the ones that Jumped into my cart.

My succulent is blooming

I repotted my faux log, this time I put a California sunset (not sure I lost the tag) plumeria in the middle. Along with my succulents, they have the same water requirement. It would be interesting to see if this will bloom.

Thanks Ursula looking forward to this blooming season. I already counted 12 named varieties that are forming inflos. I like them because they thrive despite my neglect and they bloom nonstop from April to November/December in our time zone. All of them are fragrant too.

Lately though I'm trying to stay with dwarf or compact varieties. The tall ones I will keep them 3 to 4 feet tall too to enjoy their blooms.

The pleasures of living in a warmer climate! Smiling

I had taken a chance on the weather and moved a lot of Rhipsalis and all sorts of other succulents out on the deck last week. In some years I got lucky and the nights stayed warm enough, but not this year. We are probably getting a touch of frost tonight and maybe tomorrow. So, the Rhipsalis are already inside and I will have to do some moving back inside and maybe wrap part of the deck with a large piece of plastic. The Epiphyllums parked in front of the garage have to go back into the garage too.
This is good exercise, right?

Well, everything is back inside except for a very large Cactus in a Talavera pot, it is just too unwieldy to move again inside. Those Cacti should be able to handle a tiny chill.....I hope.
I might just throw a blanket on the emerging Bletillas later on today.

Except for the African succulents, and a couple of huge Epiphyllums which have to wait for more room to get through the door to the deck, all C&S are back outside, it should now stay warm enough.
The Ipheion are blooming along with the Muscari in the front border right now.

It's nice to see some color up on the tundra.

Even though I missed the swallow-tail Kite, I did get a few pics in the garden. The bougainvillea is beginning to bloom and will stay in bloom through October. This is the tree form with few thorns and a light fragrance.

Beautiful, Jim!
I have always been fond of Bougainvilleas, when we see them in some tropical neighborhood spilling over the fences, we know we are on vacation!! I am not familiar with the Jackobinia! I
love the Gardenia too! No complains on the Mango either!
