That is my favorite plant. I use it in all my summer pots with the flowers as a filler and a spiller.

I bring mine in and break pieces off the ones in the summer baskets. You are right you cannot kill it unless you leave it out in my winters. I do not have to water it all winter and it still grows like a weed.

Yes, the roots are hardy here, but the foliage gets zapped. If I have the time/space, I take cuttings before frost takes them, to get more roots going over winter. If not given prime light-space, this plant can fade & get gangly over winter, but not to worry, it will pop back to life & purple color once outside again.

Well, it sounds like this is the plant for me then. I am hoping to take some cuttings and share them with my Mother. She already has a different type of Spiderwort (which I believe they're related) and it doesn't want to go away (which in this case she wants it to).

I am trying to root some cuttings it should work I will send you some probably sooner than you think if it grows as crazy as the solid purple. I cannot wait to see the pink flowers on this one. It should be a beauty.

Snipped off the taller Begonia that was here to let the light shine on the plants below, a Dracaena 'Rikki,' purple waffle (Hemigraphis,) more polka dot & a little false Aralia (Dizygotheca/Plerandra.)

Here's some overall shots from 3 areas, from almost mid-season, about 4 more months of growing left here. I've still been taking/adding more cuttings to bare spots, there's some wilty bits of Coleus in the pics. 100 deg isn't the best time to do that, but they'll recover, they always do, a little drink every morning.

Gorgeous. All that color and not one flower. When I try to tell people they do not need flowers to have colors they look at me like I have two heads.

TYVM! As the incurable tropical wannabe that I am, I can't wait. It needs to look like "yeah" from day one, even if kind of small. I didn't wait through months of winter to wait through more months of warm weather, for boring looking plants to finally do the thing that makes them attractive, for a really short time. Always something to snip & fill in. I'm having a blast!

I agree. I do what you are doing to my patio but I am planting in huge pots. Since the patio is so big I try to set it up to be my tropical island get away. It is the reason I drag so many pots in for the winter. If I keep the tropical plants, and houseplants alive all winter I get a big impact on the patio fast.

These three rubber trees are really a good kick for drama on the patio.

Really enjoying this area that I'm using for the 1st time this year. Whether I use it or not, I still have to pull hundreds of cherry laurel sprouts per week. It's more fun to do if it's a planting area.
