The squirrel on today's banner is freaking me out, already! No more squirrels! Hilarious!

I posted this on the hummingbird thread but I'm super excited because I managed to get two okay photos of the hummingbird on Golden Dew Drop (Duranta erecta). Gotta be quick when these guys are flying. They don't hang around at all!

They're furry rats! And I don't like the way it's eyeing me. It just looks suspicious.

Margaret - That photo is priceless!!! Too funny! I wonder how long it took him to get out of the cage around the feeder? LOL!

Melanie - Congrats on the hummingbird! Mine have gone north as Winter is over and they are heading for the breeding grounds! Maybe you are seeing one of mine? You never know!

Natalie - Actually $130 for a feeder was for TWO feeders! Supposedly on clearance! Ha!

Becky, it didn't take him too long to get out once he realized it was hard to get the seed out of those ports, especially since I had DH put a strip of copper across the ports to keep the seeds from falling out. Hilarious!

Becky, which way do those hummingbirds head? I'll be honest, I had no idea where Sebastian, FL was so I Googled it and it looks like we're at almost the same latitude with me being slightly north and us being on opposite coasts. Does that mean my hummingbirds will be leaving me soon, too? I'm cool with it as long as they go visit my aunt and Grandma in WV.

Melanie - I didn't realize you were on the west coast of Florida. I was thinking you were directly north of me. LOL! If you are on the west coast, you could be getting hummers from Mexico. (Flying across the Gulf.) And they could be breeding in your area. I know folks who live on the west coast and toward the middle of the state who get hummers in the Spring and Summer that are breeding there. The females are raising their young in those areas. Keep an eye out. Time will tell whether yours are just passing through heading north or sticking around.

I had a breeding female who I believe was raising babies during a summer several years ago. (Rare for that to happen over here on the east coast.) I kept a feeder up for her the entire Spring and Summer months. She would come to the feeder late in the afternoon and sometimes early morning to eat. But I wouldn't see her any other time of the day at the feeders. For nesting females, they like being able to get a long drink at one nectar (sugar water) source, so I believe she would come for her first feeding and her last feeding of the day since the sugar water feeders were so convenient for her. It also enabled her to get back to her nest quickly. I had no idea where her nest was though. I am sure it was some distance from my yard. But it was definitely a female Ruby-throated hummingbird.

So you never know! Thumbs up

The Ruby-throated breeding range includes central Fla. and I see them here in my yard from late March through July and into the first week of August.

Here are a couple of short videos of the birds around here. Seems like I can only get pictures of turkeys and goldfinch, so I made a video of each instead. Hilarious!

Thanks Lin! There were more turkeys, but I couldn't get them all in the frame. There were maybe 5 large babies in that group, which is always fun to see!

I had this feeling that he was all fluffed up because there were a couple of other younger toms in the group. There was a bit of a display going on later, between two of them, but my camera battery was dead, and so were the two backup batteries. Whistling I'm charging them now. Hilarious!

Should get interesting during mating season, apparently the males will fight to the death at times. Blinking

Apparently I missed mating season, since there are a lot of older babies around already. Not sure how long it lasts though. I am positive that I would not like to see a fight to the death. That would make me sick.
