Great to see this conversation started with a picture of a male, mine's not much a frequent visitor. I can stand on the porch and talk to the mama bird but if I raise the camera she leaves. So I took a picture of the kids, lol!

Great birds, Lin! I see birds on power lines also, especially doves! I finally caught the male Scott's Oriole partaking of a bit of nectar. He's so cool!

Thanks ladies, I've been having issues with my camera lately and my pictures don't seem to be as clear as usual ... but maybe it's not the camera but the person looking through the lens.

Linda, that Scott's Oriole is gorgeous! Is it a year round resident in your area?

Lin, I see no issues with those pictures! They are good enough to be in a bird book! In fact, when I enlarged them, it seemed like I was actually looking at professional pictures from a book!

Stopped by the Osprey nest on the way home from the movies. There was only one up there today and I couldn't get too close because it started flying around and making very loud noises. I was afraid I was freaking it out. Are they normally so high-pitched?

Melanie, there might be a baby (or 2) in the nest which would cause the adult Osprey to be very agitated. This is the time of year for baby birds, including baby ospreys. Keep your eyes out and in the next few weeks you may see the young ones as they fledge the nest.

I wondered about that because the Osprey was shrieking real high-pitched, right. But when it got back to the nest I could hear a lower-toned bird. So I wondered if there was something in there or maybe it was just another bird nearby I couldn't see. Also, I didn't notice until I was back in traffic but there's another nest with a somewhat smaller bird on the other side of the street. I took this while I was waiting for the light to change.



And then as I was driving up SR 54 a few miles away I saw another nest (also think it was Osprey) on top of a billboard. I thought it was part of the billboard at first, like how sometimes the Chick-Fil-A cows will sit on top but it was a nest! Good to see the birds getting busy making the next generation.
