Got some pictures yesterday, but didn't have time to post. Today I have to do our tax return -- ugh -- so I can put this off for a little while by posting some pictures!!! Green Grin!

This one always catches me by surprise -- my ancient NOID:

Now -- with the above pictures, you've gotten a glimpse of my weed situation! Might as well share the whole ugly truth with you.

First picture is of the area that I haven't gotten to yet. This shows what a mess I had on my hands.
Thumb of 2015-04-14/Muddymitts/a8b9dd

Second picture shows the mess in the Red Maple area -- there are Irises, Daylilies and Monkey Grass in there...........
Thumb of 2015-04-14/Muddymitts/222e0c

Third picture is of the area that I've gotten cleared so far:
Thumb of 2015-04-14/Muddymitts/d49f95

Here's a picture of the debris from cutting back of the grass plants, and pruning the yews (sides only -- haven't gotten the top done yet)

Notice the poor lilac -- blooming -- with weeds surrounding it. Sad That job's done though -- weeds pulled and sprayed.

Yikes. Crying

Thanks Celia. More in front than behind, I'm afraid. I haven't shown you the other side of the front of the house. And I haven't even started the work on my Mom's. And then there's the matter of Iris Lane..............omg. Crying

It is the rain here that is keeping me from weeding and I guess I will have to pick up tons of oak leaves by hand. As soon as the leaves dry out enough to move them it is so windy they blow all over the place. I have two oaks that keep their brown leaves until new ones emerge or a spring storm strips them. They have been down for two weeks and back in the iris beds. It is not raining right now but cloudy, chilly and windy and everything is soaked from yesterdays steady rains. I am going to have to live with what nature gives me and my limitations to change it. smiles

Mary Ann, your work looks great and even the part you have not gotten too does not look that bad. When I go out I take a kettle of boiling water and pour it on weeds/grass that have come up in my paths. At least I can walkabout.

Great idea, Celia!! Hilarious!

Same weather here, Bonnie. I never thought about boiling water -- does it kill the weeds?

Yes, It kills most of them and tiny sprouts too. Just don't get it on a plant you want to keep or yourself. Have you ever fixed 'wilted greens' where you use the bacon drippings piping hot poured over them? That is what the weeds look like after I give them a boiling water bath.

Mary Ann, your "ancient NOID" appears a lot like Iris Germanica, light edge around fall, yellow beard in throat, early bloomer, IB around 26-28" stem, etc.

Dave -- if I have a chance tomorrow, I'll measure the stem height. Thanks for the information.

Ummm -- Iris Germanica is what? A species like Louisianas? Some of these designations confuse me..............

I have a NoID that looks very similar too, except the beard has more yellow. I'll try to get a picture soon in case anybody recognizes it.
