Iris Germanica collected by Linneaus 1753. Native to Europe, this is the purple variety most likely portrayed in Van Gogh’s famous painting. See website: http://www.missouriplants.com/... which has very detailed description and pictures.
A really hardy one!

Great reference pages, Celia and Dave. Thumbs up

Mine is a mongo increaser. This pile is going to the community garden for their Third Saturday market sale and I STILL have huge plantings everywhere--all from six original rhizomes!

Debra or Celia - I would love some if you have leftovers. I think I am remiss not having one of the original iris species.

Hi Pat -- I don't think I've seen you here before. If I'm right about that -- Welcome!

It's so exciting waiting to see new Irises for the first time. Please post a photo of yours as they open!! I suspect that that green will be white when the bud opens, and looks like it'll have a purple rim! Green Grin!

Yes...(I noticed they seem to turn out white) I was just looking at some photos and it may be Hi There Gorgeous or ?? Anyway it will be fun to see how they turn out. I purchased another batch of 20 I think and although this lady purchased from just two growers hers were not marked either. I guess she had over 1000 plants. These will probably not bloom this year, too late and two small. Something to look forward to for next year though. I'm loving all of the beautiful blooms everyone is sharing!
