Your chickens are so much more colorful than what I grew up with. We had regular white laying hens (not sure of a breed name) and we had to gather eggs every day. I wouldn't trade those days for anything.

OH! I LOVE those chickens, Suzanne!!! I am soooooo jealous! What a beautiful group of girls you have!

No eggs, yet, the oldest are 14 weeks old, the two youngest are 11 weeks. On average, sources say 5-6 months is when they start.
They are so fun to watch, making their soft clucking sounds while they forage and scratch.

Beautiful birds,..they have lovely markings,..most of your ladies are new to me and are worth a good viewing,..even Fluffy Butt

Sue, what great chickens! I think Fluffy Butt Violet is my favorite – but they all are so pretty. How many eggs do you think you will get from the chickens, once they hit their stride?

I need to go back and read more about Miss V. She looks like she'll keep those eggs warm and I live in Kansas - where winters get cold. I don't have chickens now (and may never), but the idea keeps coming to mind. I had about decided to go for it when the bird flu hit and I realized I knew nothing. I tabled the idea. Yet, here I am, looking at chickens again.

The chicken house is outstanding. A lot of thought and a lot of work went into that. I'll bet the chickens love it.
