Salt Marsh caterpillars crawling all across the highway, I wonder if any actually cross in one piece. Blinking

Cool. I see the Mississippi Kites every summer. I will have to keep an eye out.

If I had to bet, the Mockingbird quit singing because it saw the Kites too. The woods get quiet when the Kites are around.

I've literally never seen Mississippi Kites before, at first I thought it was a mutant dove or a pigeon. Hilarious!
If songbirds don't like them around then by all means I'll personally build the Kites a nest if they'll keep the wrens, cowbirds and phoebes shut up, plus eat the mice and bugs. Big Grin

Temple got a lot of heavy rain this afternoon (flood warning) but only a couple minutes of very tiny hail mixed in around 3pm. I'm not real happy with all the hail damage of late. Good thing we didn't finish up the leaf cleanup on the driveways and sidewalks yesterday, as it would have been a TOTAL waste of time, being that they are covered again.

And June is the start of hurricane season, chuckl. Winds are blowing, heavy clouds outside making it dark early, .75" for the beginning of the front earlier. Calling for tornado watches, but there is nothing near me for that, now north of us is catching some colors on the radar. Here is the main storm, several power blinks,

This storm took out 5 electric towers in Houston. The waters have receded, but my grandson and his family are without home power, so they are here for the time being. Glad I just washed the sheets, chuckl. I need to check on folks who were east of us, the news was reporting winds of 100 mph in some places, and the lightning was thick. Hopefully it can be repaired/replaced before too many days have passed.

Poor Huston! Group hug

No bad storms here, just a lot of rain. Currently overcast, coolish and wet. My mother is getting into my bag of Jalapeno Cheetos.
Mouse got into the greenhouse last night and tore up my dying Ionantha and dug in pot. Thankfully my new plastic cloches kept them from digging into my important stuff. I'll set the traps tonight. I can't get over how bad the mice have been this year. They weren't like this 4 or even 3 years ago.

We got the tail end of the storm that devastated Houston. Suddenly it was as dark as night, loud thunder, impressive lightning, 1.47" of rain, strong winds, but no damage to the farm.

GOOD! Glad you guys missed out! Was wondering how many were in that storm. Kids say 3 to 7 days for their power, I have been frying up some of their bacon and stuff, but they lost most of their just bought groceries. Houston newscasters were breathless at this storm, haven't checked on the flooding yet down there. I have 2 skillets in the oven getting seasoned, they are cooling down at the moment, took my sprayer to the garden and caught a new batch of caterpillars rolling leaves up and munching on my eggplants. When I can walk thru the yard again, I have LOTS of debris to pick up. The sweetgum that fell in back I have been waiting 6 or 7 months for it to go, it could not have fallen in a more perfect spot.

I planted 7 borage seedlings Wednesday, either cutworm or caterpillar got 3, made a circle of honey on ground around the rest, an inch or 2 away from each plant, and dusted plants with DE this morning. Honey should trap them, thats the plan

My sister and niece in Cypress have no power at their homes, but otherwise no damage. I think my nephew in Conroe missed any problems caused by the weather. Don't know about other relatives in the area, but at least one was gone out of state on vacation.

Yeah, 249 hwy had issues but most of it hit just out of Cypress. Downtown Houston caught a lot of wind. These storms seem to run from west to east along the interstates such as I 10, or FM2920, just like they seem to follow I 20 up where you are Donald

My daughter and son-in-law managed to drive out of Houston. Wish they could bring a little rain here. They should be here by early morning, then we are flying to LA for grandson's college graduation. Hopefully will be back Sunday night.

Ditto on the rain sending! Dug deep into the freezer and sent the old stuff into a dump tub, will add storm compost as I pick it up, chuckl. Summer has arrived and I had to mow again. My food grade 55 gallon blue drum is now full before I got to empty and clean it out, adding mosquito bits and figuring out how to lay the screening I have as a lid now. Back to siesta lunches with the summer heat.

I did the same with my rain barrel. I don't have a screen lid for it. I also threw bits into a standing water puddle right behind the fence. Ain't enough mosquito bits in the world to put where those filthy things breed.
