Last year 'Easter Bonnet' opened on 4-20... this year, yesterday...


I bought these next two from the '60's as possible matches for one of my NOIDs... not even that close..

Beautiful glimpse into history Arlyn!

While I see why many are only drawn to moderns, these graceful beauties take me back to childhood, and the qualities of irises that first intrigued me. I've always felt connected to the past, being sentimental and nostalgic, I enjoy feeling that connection to gardeners of yesteryear.

Another of my historic noids, that I bet some of you experts could point me into the right direction as to possible id.

Neal, it is screaming Easter Bonnet to me. It may scream something else to everyone else but I hear bad.

Neal, I cried when I realized the gardeners of yesteryears planted the yard for me. We can laugh in heaven some day.

Were those tears of joy or sadness Linnea? I always wanted to move to a place that had an established "hidden" garden that I could just discover and poof I was done. Nope, instead we buy a house on almost an acre with two trees and 4 clumps of peach noid irises, that's it!

My home came with a lovely backyard of 4' weeds, a sick/dying peach tree and a few random tulips. Oh, and a poplar smack dab in the middle of the yard.

Well, as 'gardens ' go......I think I would sooner start with a blank canvas .....and then make my OWN mess out of it

Oh, and what a large mess I have made!

I don't know how many are out there with this coloring, but Easter Bonnet does look likely- thanks!

My only really old historic is Rhages. It alwway wins the historic caregory at our show.

Does it have any purple in the foliage? I have several unmarked ones that have not blossomed and one was supposed to be Rhages.

My 'Easter Bonnet' is lighter.


This just opened yesterday. 'Star Shine' (Wills 1947).. The falls have a shading of blue that is really lovely.

Sherry, I can just see a hint of the blue. VERY nice.
