I made sweet zucchini pickles last year and they where awesome. I'm not a big fan of pickles but I did like the zucchini pickles. I cut them into cubes. Zucchini pickle relish is also good. I made some last year and we used it on grilled chicken sandwiches.

I made this veggie garden area larger the lazy way!

I simply took newspapers and laid them out over the grass, used bricks as edging and covered the paper with some used potting mix.

Mulched my box of baby (teenagers now) heirloom cherry tomato plants with dried grass clippings from the grass I rAked from between the community garden boxes yesterday. It killed me physically, but had no idea I could tolerate the exertion. So today, I got braver and walked to and from the garden. Hope these new abilities continue. Ran into a town official and she gave me money to buy annual flowers and plant them in the community garden flower boxes.
And good thing I got a photo of my purple kale yesterday! Between 9pm Friday, and noon today, someone helped themselves to half the kale leaves right from my porch! Thumbs down

Wow! I can't believe how inconsiderate someone is to take your kale right from your deck!

Wow sorry to hear about the prized Kale being stolen... I hope who ever stole it enjoyed it. Possibly the mail carrier????? Put a sign in the pot "Keep Out Poisonous Plant".
Happy to hear you are walking more and got your veggies mulched.

First time for me planting a fall crop of peas. Got them sprouted in egg cartons and will wait till a little bigger before transplanting to the garden.

Wow.....kale thieves! My sister, who lives in a condo & gardens in an area down the hill from her home, has had problems with folks taking tomatoes....

LOL! Noooo...it wasn't the mailman! Seriously, he is the sweetest man who has as much trouble walking as I do. Like the idea of the sign though! nodding Marilyn, I live in a neighborhood know as a high crime area, there are people in this town who won't drive through this neighborhood. Community garden has locks, and for the 3 years I've been a member, no one has bothered it, except an occasional disgruntled gardener, and believe it or not, the prior former master gardener who pocketed garden funds as well! Garden gates are locked which is somewhat of a deterrent. Most of the troublemakers around here are looking for drugs, not tomatoes. My porch is another story. Many people, yards, and parking lots have no boundaries! Living here is a challenge, and always a learning experience.

I had to pick zucchini today before they became monster size.

Yesterday evening I picked there. Afew Juliet tomatoes, a sunstripe squash and afew cucumbers.

It made a really pretty looking and tasty salad. Ate that right up.

I put new potting soil and reused some of those plastic cell packs one buys the spring veggies in at the nursery. Last week I had sown seeds in them of Magda and Italian Harvest Zucchini. The Magda is up but nothing on the Italian Harvest. It should have been up. So I simply added new seeds into each section. Maybe will have better luck.

The crookneck I sowed on Saturday are already coming up.

I also sowed some basil seeds and took some cuttings to root of the Basil that is growing here.

Ate my first Early Girl tomato tonight. Lots more starting to change color......Groundhog spotted behind deer netting in the wood track behind our house. You can bet I'll be watching him. Got more traps set just in case. Picked up cantaloupe at the store tonight to bait the traps with.
