A spading fork works well to lift a clump. Then side rhizomes can be taken off and remaining clump placed back in original position, or lift with fork and start breaking apart completely.

My worst clump was in a "rescue" where a clump was planted in a small area surrounded by walkways so the rhizomes grew on top of each other for around 7 years. That one needed a knife to separate, but most survived.

Was that the sidewalk rescue you mentioned before? I think it was you. Hilarious!

These were taken last year but I thought I would share anyway. I missed taking photos of my SDBs this year and my TBs have yet to bloom.

Here is a shot of some NOIDs from last year. There are two different ones in the clump. They suffered terrible rot this year and I am trying to save them. I believe I lost one completely.

Really like your clump of Alpha Gnu. Very striking iris in a clump.

Breathtaking, Arlyn!

Celie, Love the plant combo and colors! Is that white spike bloom behind Ambroisie a Verbascum?

Thanks, Neal. Yes, Verbascum Temptress White. When it's done, I cut it back and it reblooms. In a long season like this year, I can get 5-6 reblooms on into Nov.
