I must remember--Do not buy more fl
We got a puppy a couple of months ago-a cute golden retriever. This morning he was outside alone for about an hour. He "retrieved" most of my plant markers. Busy pup! He put them in a rather neat pile just outside the door. Sigh. He had fun--now I can have fun trying to figure out what is where. Note to self--watch puppy! I have been going to make a daylily bed map--Should have.

Dorothy, I know it is frustrating, but having shared my life with two amazing Golden Retrievers, I would think that your new puppy will outgrow this. In the meantime, good luck! You're going to need it! Neither of my retrievers were good at retrieving, but they did like collecting things and putting them in a pile when they were young! At least you still have the markers, which should help down the road! I'd love to see a picture of the new family member!

I have always used AAA markers. Years ago ( before I got a tall fence) my neighbor's little girl decided to pick a bouquet of them. I'll never forget the sheepish look and profound apology when my neighbor rang the doorbell holding the markers. This is a very good argument for why we all need 1) garden maps and 2) underground name markers! I have some, but not all areas plotted out, but with a fence I feel more secure about the markers staying in place.

@Natalie no way. A non retrieving Golden. My Buddy is 2 now and lives to retrieve. I have taught him to stay on the garden paths, that being said if a ball should happen to fly over the daylily beds it game on. Take no prisoners. If I am weeding from a chair he is usually under it waiting for playtime.
@floota yes yes Julie to garden maps! I only keep them for the daylilies but they have proven invaluable.
Dorothy good luck, this too shall pass.
PS yes to pup pictures!

I'm serious, @Kabby! Neither of my Goldens would retrieve! The first one, Bud, was bred for show, which may be why, but he was just a pet. The second one, Maggie, was bred to hunt, though she was just a pet too. They just couldn't be bothered! Bud could swim all day though. We had to go in and save him from drowning more than once, because he'd swim until too exhausted to get back to shore. Maggie didn't want to get her hair messy, so she hated swimming, until she got old and didn't care if her hair was messy. Maggie didn't like kids, either, so she was extra weird! They were both amazing dogs though, and I miss them terribly! We now have two Labs. One is obsessed with retrieving, and the other will gladly bring something back if you throw it, but it isn't an obsession.
