Fred - Your pink 2016 intro is a beauty!

Lisa - I love all the movement in this red seedling - especially the twirly curly sepals. The color looks very velvety too!

Ashton - The purple toothy is looking grand. And you are getting lots of pretty ones from Aztec Headdress and Vivid Butterfly, or is that the same seedling I liked before? Super pattern and colors on the Psychedelicious baby.

Just a few blooms for today. Seems the backyard daylilies are about done (I think), but the front yard is on a roll with some loaded scapes of different seedlings:

Backyard today had this new one....

CCC72 - Buddy Hudson x unknown. Seed from Mike. (Thanks, Mike!). 6" bloom that has petals that curve back so much that I want to call it "Slick"! Hilarious!

Thumb of 2015-06-13/beckygardener/300e2d

It's got quite the edging of thick ruffles:

Thumb of 2015-06-13/beckygardener/21c92e

Front yard border....

EEE20 (Unknown parentage) - 6" bloom:

Thumb of 2015-06-13/beckygardener/8d44e1

It has 2 scapes on it that just blew my mind! look at all the branching on each scape. I counted 30 buds on each scape. My kind of scape!!! This one will be in my breeding program:

EEE21 more blooms! This one has won my heart! I absolutely love this seedling:

I cleaned up the front daylily border by removing the dead or rusty leaves and trimming the leaf tips.

What it looked like before (UGH!!!):

What it looks like after the clean-up (YAY!):

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Really like that #12-203 Ashton.
CCC72 recurved and gorgeous, great scape on EEE20.
Nice purple DG.

Things are slowing down here, I am watching rebloom to
make selections of what will be moved to the hybridizing
area this fall. They are flagged and given an HB# which
will remain with them for the life of the plant.

beckygardener.
Those plants look so much nicer cleaned up. I have been pulling leaves and dead heading every morning. It seems that the yellow leaves were mostly just naturally aging ones and they seemed to reach peak just like the blooms. Some days I will have a lot of blooms and some days a lot of yellow leaves to pull. Others days almost no yellow leaves to pull. I would love to know if pulling all the yellow dying leaves harms the vigor of the plant in any way and if pulling the leaves actually slows down the number of yellow leaves appearing, it seems to (could just be in my mind). I did notice that the great majority of the yellow leaves I pulled were nearly always the older outer leaves, often far wider and courses than the other leaves, but not always. I have read where people trimmed the yellow tips off, but I pull my leaves off at the base. Let us know how that works out.

DancingGenes - Looks like it is going to be a very attractive bloom if not damaged. I had thrip damage off and on for a couple years. But this year I am not really seeing much damage. I don't treat my daylilies, so I don't know why I don't have the thrips this year. (Glad though that they passed on my garden for a change! Thumbs up ) Take a look at this webpage: http://www.planetnatural.com/p...

Fred - BEAUTIFUL!!! But I have to ask you .... why did the last 3 not make it in your program??? I really, really like them, too! Lovey dubby Sad

Larry - Just wondering, why are you dead-heading your daylilies? I try not to let a daylily bloom go without being hand-pollinated. (Even the ones that I am not crazy about because sometimes you can get something nice from something less desirable.) I do agree with you that many of the yellowing leaves on mine are aged leaves and are the outer leaves. I can easily pull those leaves. But I do have active rust off and on. So at least half of the ugly leaves are rust damage, too. Which is why I cut off the tips because that is often where the rust damage starts here. I don't know if cutting the tips harms the daylilies or not, but it looks better than the often rusty ends (which is on most in my front border except the youngest leaves).

I deadhead because I am not hybriding, and I don't like the unsightly dead blooms mixed in with the pretty new ones. Even though I am deadheading every morning I still have quite a few naturally pollinated plants with seed pods. I will notice often when I am deadheading that I will pull off a "hollow bloom" and that will normally indicate a fertilized bloom.
Sorry, Posted photos in wrong thread.

My very first seeding bloom, very bright, I like it. The picture seems to lose the glow that the eye sees. About 15" -5 1/2"- I can count 8 buds. I have all the crosses saved but didn't mark out the plants when I moved them last year. Two- year- old plant.

Two-year-old seedling bed, lots of scapes and the fun begins!

Looking back at the crosses, I think All Fired Up x Rock Solid is the most likely parents.

Nice first seedling Gale.
Becky I already have some tet eye and edge flagged with better scapes,
I try to keep what I think will do the best, I just can't flag pretty faces.

This will be registered this year if I have enough
Its not a UF just an extra large flower.

I have Highland Pinched Fingers down as the pod parent, it is orange but much smaller, about 3" and different form. Tall and bright. This was planted outside last June, so a one-year-old plant.

About 6" bloom on 30" scape, has a light watermark, will have to see how it's color does this afternoon.

Small, about 2 1/2" on short scape about 14", very pretty red with white edge.
