Kidfishing - I'm love that cascading #59!
The other are nice as well.
I don't have any first time seedlings blooming this year, and I miss the excitement that comes with that. But I have been noticing changes in my older seedlings. In general, my stats are down because the neighbor's trees just keep shading the seedling bed more and more. But these showed improvment, despite those conditions.
Natalie Antoinette x Symphony of Praise had a 6 inch bloom on 22 inch scapes with 5 buds last year. This year the first bloom was just over 7 inches on 28 inch scape with 12 buds. It would have had more buds, but some critter bit off the lateral branch as it was growing.
Here's a view from another angle that shows how much larger a bloom it is than the seedling that is my avatar.
This seedling, now known as the Thing that Ate the Seedling Bed, is a Sun Bear X Julie Newmar cross. No change in the bloom size. It's still 6.5. But the scapes went from the 32 inches it has been for the past two years to 37-40 inches tall this year. Most of the scapes have four-way branching. The two that get the most sun have 5-way. Bud counts range from 19-24. 11 out of 13 fans have instant rebloom scapes coming.
Here's another pic of that one. I wish the bloom were larger and had more teeth, so that is what I have been crossing for. Also the bloom kind of folds up and turns brownish when heat index is 98-100, as it has been so often recently.
I like the 7 inch bloom of the sibling better. This is the first year it has shown some tiny white teeth on the edge. Scapes in the past two years were 30 inches with 18-20 buds. This bloom is an almond cream color and seems to hold a bit better in extreme heat.
This is an early white seedling, Dust Be Diamonds x Tuxedo Junction. While it has a variety of short scapes this year, the blooms have remained around 7 inches. In past years scapes have been 28-29 inches with 16-20 buds.
Here's the seedling that is my avatar. The biggest change on this one is bud count. It went up from 9 last year to 16 this year. I hope I will get it moved to full sun soon. The other change is the edge. Instead of being white, in this heat it's cream and gold.
